Millett "Starving Student" hybrid amp
Winsor, did you magage to build it? How does the Starving student compare to the O2 amp? I was wandering, because I'm also interested in the O2. And I love the ssh, but it's not very sturdy. And would like a seperate AMP- Kaaf

sennheiser HD600 vs. grado RS1e
IMHO, Grado's and Sennheiser are complete opposites. I wouldn't trade my hd600 with any Grado (soundwise/comfort) If you are looking for easier to drive headphones with similair sound. Than try to look for the NAD hp50 or Beyer Custom One Pro. But everyone is Different and don't beleive...- Kaaf

Millett "Starving Student" hybrid amp
I have a strange issue When I'm using my Senn HD600 I don't receive any humm, But when I connect my new NAD viso HP50 I receive an annoying humm in my right ear. Not audiable when playing music but very annoying during silence. It isn't affected by the volumeknob The HD600 has an impendace of...- Kaaf

Closed Headphones that Sound like HD650?
If you want to listen to the alphadogs in the Netherlands you should go to Zoetermeer. Hifistudio79 has them reach to listen to. This is where i found out my amp was not sufficient for the MrSpeakers Alphadogs- Kaaf

Closed Headphones that Sound like HD650?
I also had the same question. I have a Senn hd600. But the MrSpeakers Alpha Dog mentioned earlier needs a powerfull amp. My amp was not powerful enough (starving student amp), resulting in a very thin bass response. I ended up with a Beyer Dynamic Custom One Pro. Cheaper and pretty similiar...- Kaaf

Audiophile Ethernet cables - The World Has Gone MAD!
The most impotant thing in ethernet cables is the twisting. But there are also ftp (foiled)or stp (shielded) ethernet cables. They are for proffesional/industrial purposes (so are their switches) and they use the metal rj45 connectors with shielding. So it's not all BS- Kaaf

Audiophile Ethernet cables - The World Has Gone MAD!
No, we need to make a direct connection to the source to eliminate any external distubance of the network..........damn... I googled it, that already exists: a record player, it uses some strange black platter.- Kaaf

Brief Odac impressions
I've bought the PCB version of the ODAC and installed it with a "starving student" hybrid tube amp. So I've "built" my own headphone dac/amp . Connected to a Mele a2000 loaded with ubuntu (see: http://guillaumeplayground.net/) And I must say.....I'm convinced. Paried with a Senn hd600 it...- Kaaf

Correct. It doesn't really matter where you ground the housing, als long as is not your main ground lead. Always hardwire your grounding.- Kaaf

Millett "Starving Student" hybrid amp
Fellow SS'ers I finished my SS with the PCB of Fred. Sounds good and fairly happy with it. But fairly is not 100%. Because I have a slight hum on my can's. This isn't bothersome when playing music, but during silent parts it's noticable. The volume of the hum doesn't change when using the pot...- Kaaf

Starving Student PCB's
Watch out, don't make the same mistake that i did. R2/R8 is 390k for the 12au7 version. Just finished mine...working prefectly apart from a slight hum. (maybe some better grounding but WIP). Used a ODAC as a source and a Senn hd600. Clean as a whistle.- Kaaf
