busted driver on a Sony R10 - what to do??

Quote:   I think you misunderstand what I'm saying. The driver looks like the one on the left in your first photo, the 4th generation (not the #3 on the right). Also the phones have a very late serial number (I can't remember off the top of my head, but I know it's 10xx), and the...

busted driver on a Sony R10 - what to do??

OP here. Thanks for reviving the thread - there's some great info here! (my R10 drivers are definitely 4th generation - they don't have a stamp, and they have the black felt damping on the back shown in Purk's 1st photo).   An update to my problem: I ended up putting CD3k drivers in them...

busted driver on a Sony R10 - what to do??

Thanks for all the replies everyone - sorry I haven't been checking back more often.   Yes, partstore and sony were the first places I went after getting the headphones, and they were all out of parts.  I'm surprised partstore still lists them, especially after I ordered the parts and they...

busted driver on a Sony R10 - what to do??

Quote:   I want to get them repaired, but as far as I know there's nothing I can do other than keep my eye out, and hope a driver shows up someday. If you know differently, I'd love to be enlightened (that's why I asked the question, after all...)     And I'm not talking about duct...

busted driver on a Sony R10 - what to do??

I lucked into a pair of Sony R10's for an amazing price, but of course there was a reason - one of the drivers is totally shot (completely beyond repair - it looks like the previous owner tried to have it repaired or repaired it himself, and the diaphragm's torn, the coil leads are gone, etc). ...

    Please Help a head-fi newbie choose: 7509 vs dt770 vs k240

These were used. A local recording studio just got an all-new headphone system and was selling off their old headphones. If anyone's in the Boston area, check craigslist. He's still got the 7509, a couple AKG k240's, and some ATH-m40fs. Unfortunately he sold the K271 before I got there!

Gloco, you're right, these are definitely older model Beyers (I bought them used). Also, the fellow I bought them from used them regularly as monitor headphones in his studio, but he said he almost never used the V6's, so it is entirely possible that they are not yet broken in. It's good to know...

    Please Help a head-fi newbie choose: 7509 vs dt770 vs k240

Well, listening to them a bit more, I must say I exaggerated when I said they were almost as efficient as the Sony v6's. They are definitely less efficient. However, I find that on my powerbook (which has 16 clicks for volume level) I can listen comfortably at 10-12 clicks, 14 for full-volume...

    Please Help a head-fi newbie choose: 7509 vs dt770 vs k240

Well, I picked them up today. He ended up having a bunch of other headphones around as well, so I got to test them all out. I was surprised at how bad the Sonys sounded, although he had a pair of v6's that were much better than the 7509's. The k240's were simply not efficient enough for computer...

I've got a line on several headphones. I'm into audio, and have fairly nice equipment, but I haven't yet gotten into headphones seriously. These would serve two purposes: to monitor transfers I'm making from vinyl to digital, and for general purpose hifi listening. I'd want something that...
