MHDT Labs: R-2R NOS Tube DACs
I'm using the Philips ECG JAN now in my Havana. I'm gravitating towards using this tube all the time because it livens things up. With my setup I need my Havana to sound brighter, more along the lines of a typical DAC. The sound still has warmth and body, imo. Also I put the AD 1856 DAC chips...- Jbucla2005

SMSL SU-1
It’s so good I could sell my Bifrost 2/64 and buy 8 of those! Seriously. I just don’t know how well the USB works yet.- Jbucla2005

Need recommendations for a desktop DAC with USB input
The SMSL SU-1 sounds leaner and more neutral than the FiiO K7, so I'm keeping it and returning the FiiO (since I don't like the bass boost and don't need a headphone jack.)- Jbucla2005

No, haven't tried that one yet, but for now I'm avoiding SABRE Dacs.- Jbucla2005

I'm also wondering about the SMSL SU-1, and how it compares to the FiiO K7 as a DAC.- Jbucla2005

Schiit Audio Bifrost 2
megacomboburrito mode seems a little strident to me. There is more edge to the sound, and it comes across in a slightly harsh way. Switching to NOS mode removes the edge and it sounds a little more spacious / 3D, but some realism is lost. Now I'm not sure which one I prefer, but leaning towards NOS.- Jbucla2005

Schiit Audio Bifrost 2
Thanks, I’m going to try the mega combo burrito mode for a bit and see if I like it more. Edit: first impression is it seems brighter, edgier, more focused, more narrow sounding. It might actually be better than NOS mode coming out of my tube amps. I will try it out for a few days.- Jbucla2005

Schiit Audio Bifrost 2
Compared to most DAC's out there right now in this price range or less. I actually really enjoy it with all types of music, so it's not really a criticism, but the more I listen and compare it with other gear I hear the built in character. It's very detailed, fun, and open, but I can definitely...- Jbucla2005

Schiit Audio Bifrost 2
Is it correct to say the BF 2/64 in NOS mode sounds warm, saturated and thick and not really neutral and realistic?- Jbucla2005

I love the line-in feature of the K7, because I can use my DragonFly Black (which doesn't feel bass-boosted.) I actually like both of these DAC's this way. Running the DragonFly Black through the line-in of the K7, I get a less bass-boosted sound that is more lush, almost tubey, but it's also...- Jbucla2005
