I had both, I sold the Sony 1000XM3 and kept the Amiron Wireless. For my use Amiron was a superior choice. Caveat - I had to switch earpads on Amiron to Brainwavz memory foam pads, and I also had to bend yokes a bit for better fit to get the best sound out of Amiron. Without those mods Amiron...

I've never listened to 1770's, but I found Amiron Wireless to have exceptionally poor seal. With aftermarket memory foam earpads they have plenty of slam down below. Brainwavz earpads are like $25, totally worth it if you want more base IMO.

I wouldn't use either Amiron Wireless or Sony 1000XM3 for the gym. Amiron Wireless is heavy and has very loose fit, I'd be afraid of them falling off my head, Sony 1000XM3 would be secure enough to stay put, but they get very warm even when not exercising, if you're going to be breaking sweat in...

It's not just an improvement. The aftermarket pads is what made the difference between keeping these headphones and sending them back. That's how awful the stock pads are. As I said, I cannot believe folks at Beyerdynamics listened to stock pads in user testing and thought yeah, that sounds good.
