    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I've heard mention in the comparisons between new/old driver versions that the newer 580/600/650s are all much easier to drive, even if there's contention about whether they sound any different from the old ones.  A/B'ing mad dogs (~50 ohm) vs. HD650s (purportedly 320 ohm) seems to confirm this...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Be sure to check craigslist for deals too, especially if you're anywhere near a metro area.  I went from 0 to HD650 in $225 flat last week all thanks to checking my city's electronics classifieds on a whim.  1yo phones, no paint chips, silver mesh and everything.  I was pretty tickled.

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Quote:   Very interesting.  I was just making some preliminary observations about the HD650 vs. Mad Dogs vs. HE400 (finally I can start comparing them!), and one of the first phrases that came to my mind to describe HD650 was 'very dry'.  Not analytically dry or harshly dry like the sands...

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review

Quote: Indeed, I've always perceived a channel imbalance (favoring the left channel) at low volumes coming from my PC, regardless of the source, amp, or headphones involved in the chain.  Only way I can resolve it is setting my system volume to about 75%.

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

I figure I'll ask this here to keep the bias equal on all sides.  HD650 and Mad Dogs seem to be the two most commonly mentioned sidegrades to the HE400.  So, for those who've experienced both: If HE400 were to poof out of existence tomorrow and you had to pick one of those two phones to replace...

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Quote:   I think you're the first guy who's described the pleathers as anything other than strictly inferior to the velours!  My HE400s came a week ago with the velours already installed and I hadn't even bothered to try the stock pads until reading this.  A lot of the niggling issues...

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review

I have a bit of an intention to acquire a pair of mad dogs to compare to HE400s, but I wanted to poll those who own a pair if anyone thinks they can still hear any plasticy resonances in the upper mids, even if just a tad.  I'm a bit paranoid after having damped the everloving crud out of my...

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

I've been wearing some modded T50RPs run through an O2 amp + UCA202 DAC (couldn't wait for ODAC, but it does the job), but I haven't been quite happy with the cans for a while.  Just not enough substance to the bass and not enough texture in the treble; I pulled out my Senn PX100s from storage...

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

I was having some real dopey fun doing this the other day.  Stock t50 pads on top of 840s, not adhered there but just using clamping force.  Easiest best way to increase bass impact I've found yet, if that's what you're into.  Of course it makes the rest of the music sound like it's being pumped...

Quote:   I only heard back from a gentleman at frogbeats saying the first batch of replacement pads should have hit e-shelves in early/mid february... and I heard this back in late Jan.  Not sure what the holdup has been since then.

This is gonna sound pretty elementary, but...   I was scraping out some plasticine from the baffles to match the "less is more" approach in the BMF 6.X versions, which by itself didn't do so much except, honestly, give more space for waves to reverberate around in so the mids got much...

Quote:   True audiophiles get around this problem by employing advanced psionics to levitate their speakers during use.  The same principle should hold for keeping earpads off the baffle, but balancing the clamping force of the headband with erratic headbanging during operation might...

Quote: Hey, that's almost exactly the suckout I'm looking for... shoutiness in the ~4-6khz lower treble is still the one thing I can't seem to touch no matter what mods I try (sane mods at least).  When you're talking sponge behind the driver you mean the same position slapped on the back...

I have the intention to buy or build an O2 amp to pair with these eventually, but on the offchance I get too impatient before ODA/ODAC designs are made available what is there in the way of budget DACs to pair with an O2?  I've heard Fiio D3/D5 mentioned, and of course the dark lord still has...

Quote: Color me naive, but when I enter in some guesstimates of what a cardboard resonator's dimensions are, I get frequencies back ranging from 6-10k.  Which is actually ideal to me since it's the 10k peak and 6-8k sibilance I'm interested in subduing, but I have a feeling I'm missing...
