Official Ipod Video / Classic 5g+5.5g+6g+6.5g+7g SSD Mod thread
Years ago when I put in my 240GB toshiba drive (before the flash and SSD options today), I had to restore on a Windows machine so that I could use Rockbox. Never tried just formatting it on the Mac as Fat32 since I assumed the restore process would just reformat it HFS+....and it appears that...- icedtrip

Official Ipod Video / Classic 5g+5.5g+6g+6.5g+7g SSD Mod thread
Are you on a Mac or Windows PC? If you're running a Mac, I have an applescript that will do this for you. It is a modified version of a script I found years ago to put iTunes playlists on a Sansa Clip - http://sharefiles.quietlakephoto.com/scripts/itunes2clip_download.html . Shoot me a PM if...- icedtrip

DAP for snowboarding
Last year I used a 4GB Clip+ with an additional 4GB card in it, paired with my TF10s, and it was perfect for snowboarding. This year, I may try out some RE0s or go back to some old Super.fi 4s since the TF10s protrude a little further than I care for when bundled up for colder mountains. Plus...- icedtrip

Super.Fi 4vi iPhone Cable Mod
Sorry, never saw the responses on this thread after the first month, so this is probably a little too late for anyone but jsteadman. The SF4s simply unscrew at the earpiece portion of the phone. No glue or single piece construction, just 2 pieces that screw together.- icedtrip

Describe your hate to the white little headphones
I hate them for 2 main reasons. Even at medium volume, people around can hear your music. I hate it when I can hear other people's music, and I simply don't want to be that guy. However, the #1 reason I hate them....they hurt my ears after only about 10 minutes. My ears have never cared for...- icedtrip

What was your 1st Portable Music Player? (Please read rules)
Do circa 1983 big silver boomboxes that take 8 D Cell batteries count? :-) Aside from the boombox (with Michael Jackson's Thriller and Ghostbusters Soundtrack I might add), my first true portable was one of the cheaper Sony Walkmans. Specific model I can't remember. First portable disc...- icedtrip

Question about ipod hard disk upgrade
Quote: Good point. Never even thought of that. The simplicity of syncing playlists, smart playlists, genres, etc has kept me from the drag and drop methods. I of course use drag and drop for my Clip+ (along with a script for playlists), but both iPods and both iPhones are synced. ...- icedtrip

Question about ipod hard disk upgrade
As for the problems with the built-in iPod software and only 32MB, once you reach a certain number of music/videos, the iPod software will run into an issue with building the database used for storing Artist, Album, etc. This has been reported on the rapid repairs forums, and although this...- icedtrip

240gb iPods
Here is one of the threads. It was over at RapidRepair and mostly deals with the 30GB (apparently where I got my ~20k number), but there are a couple mentions of other iPods. Another thing to note is that the 240GB only works with 5G and 5.5G Video iPods, not the "Classics" such as the...- icedtrip

240gb iPods
Quote: If you're not having problems with 29k on a 160GB, I don't think there would be a problem with the the equivalent on the 240GB, but I just don't know how high it would go. I've read ~20k as I mentioned above, but if you have 29k w/o a problem on the 160GB (which has 64MB RAM just...- icedtrip

240gb iPods
I use both OF and Rockbox. For OF syncing, I use iTunes for the ease; and for Rockbox, I use an Applescript within iTunes to copy over playlists and associated music files as well as manual drag and drop for FLAC files. As for the sound quality, I don't hear a drastic difference, but since...- icedtrip

iPod / iPhone output digital audio via Apple Camera Connector for iPod?
I have read that the iPhone / iPod Touch cannot use the connection kit for audio output right now (I believe I read that on the Camera Conncection Kit thread). My take is that they probably will be able to with the next iPhone OS update. The iPad is running OS 3.2 that has items that the...- icedtrip

What to Rockbox?
As others have said, the Sansa products are pretty stable. I have a Clip+ that has been rockbox'ed along with my iPod 4G Color and 5G. All 3 are running like champs, but there are some items that people need to be aware of. USB transfer on the Clip+ isn't there within Rockbox as mentioned...- icedtrip

SansaClip+ Rockbox Impressions thread
Quote: What kind of error? When I create a playlist, I select "Save Current Playlist", type in the path and name I want ( /Playlists/Name.m3u ), hold down the select button, and it saves and appears in my Playlist Catalog. By default, "Save Current Playlist" will put it at the...- icedtrip

SansaClip+ Rockbox Impressions thread
Quote: How so? I thought the settings were in the .rockbox folder in all of the .cfg and .config files. If you "overwrite" the .rockbox directory, you overwrite it at the .rockbox folder level and everything below is lost. If the unzipping software is offering to overwrite the existing...- icedtrip
