    Microsoft Surface RT

Would the Surface RT or Pro work with an Arcam rPac?   I would mainly be using Deezer Premium Plus, so 320 kb/s audio.  I also have a collection of Apple Lossless files on my network, that I would love to be able to stream.   Is a Surface the way to go?

The Xonar Essence STX Q/A, tweaking, impressions thread

Hi All, sorry if this has been covered somewhere earlier in this thread, but it is one loooong thread to hunt through!   I currently have an STX with 3 x LME49860NA op-amps.  I am really happy with the sound both through my AudioEngine A2s and Grado SR80is.   I am considering buying a...

Deezer - Worth using a DAC?

I have a Deezer Premium account, which I use on my PC, HTC One X and Sony Tablet S. I use Grado SR80i phones. I have been considering buying a usb dac/heaphone amp, but wondering if it will be a waste of money with the streamed audio. Is there any way to utilise the DAC with the phone and...

    HTC One X

Sorry if this has already been answered - but can one of the Fiio headphone / dac / amps be hooked up to the USB port of the OneX?   Alternatively, would the sound be improved hooking up the amp via the headphone cable?   Or alternatively (for when sat in the same place - living room...

    Grado Fan Club!

I have had a pair of SR80i phones for about 18 months now, and really like the lively sound.  I have tampered a little by swapping the cushions for the doughnut type, and removing the white dust cover material.  I have also just bought a Black Manta headband from headphonelounge.com   I had...

Audioengine 2, not what I expected.

I think you are mis-understanding me - "for me" they are great for what I need - and in no way am I underwhelmed with them like some people have said.  My quote about "computer music" was nothing to do with the source, I was merely stating that I use them connected to my PC to play back music -...

STX with 3xLME49860NA and Grado SR80i

I managed to fix the problem by switching back to the stock ear cups - I had been using the doughnut type ear cups.   This seems to have cut right down the harshness and sibilance - there is still some minor sibilance at high volume levels though, but only when very loud.

Audioengine 2, not what I expected.

I mean listening to music while sat at the computer - ie small enough to fit on a desk next to your monitor without taking over.   There may be better speakers out there though...

The Xonar Essence STX Q/A, tweaking, impressions thread

Original pads seem to have tamed the Grados.  Listening to the same track I tested with before - Rope by the Foo Fighters sounds just right.   They are still quite bright, but not too much.  I have the LME49860NAs back in and sounds very good!

The Xonar Essence STX Q/A, tweaking, impressions thread

I had a play with the Grados, and put a piece of tissue paper between the driver and the ear cushion (I had been using the GS1000/PS1000 type cushions).  This seems to have calmed down the brightness.   I am going to borrow a set of the stock SR80 cushions from my Dad, and try them (I...

Audioengine 2, not what I expected.

I have a pair of A2s on the Audioengine desk stands.  To my ears, they sound great.   I previously had a pair of M-Audio AV20 (I went through three sets, returning each as the L/R balance was out on each).  I found the A2s a massive improvement.   I had them placed on two house bricks...

The Xonar Essence STX Q/A, tweaking, impressions thread

Which Op amps would you guys recommend for Grado SR80i phones?   I have posted today about my experience with 3 x LME49860NAs.  I found there was a lot of sibilance on voices, and crashy splashy cymbals.   I have since swapped back to the stock ones, and the sound is very similar.  ...

STX with 3xLME49860NA and Grado SR80i

Just swapped the two headphone Op/Amps back for the original ones, and the high end is still a bit splashy.   For instance - Rope by the Foo Fighters has a lot of cymbals which very very tinny.   Also there is a kind of lisp to Dave's voice.   Any ideas?

STX with 3xLME49860NA and Grado SR80i

I have this combination and am happy with the sound through my AudioEngine A2 speakers, but through the Grados I get a lot of sibilance.   The bass and midrange is good, and detail is very impressive, it's just the lisping on voices and very high notes.   Could I have duff Op-Amps - or...

The Xonar Essence STX Q/A, tweaking, impressions thread

I have 3 x LME49860NA with a pair of Grado SR80i phones and Audioengine A2 speakers.   I am loving them so far, my previous op-amps were 3 x LME49720.   However, I find playing tracks that haven't been well encoded - ie direct from sites like Deezer (with the HQ setting on) are very...
