Quote:   Hadn't thought about that actually... I still highly doubt you would use more than 1 watt.   http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html is giving me 85 db at 15 ft not considering positioning. (using 96 db efficiency)   85 db efficiency gets about 75 db at 15...

How can we get music from an IMac and turntable to work on a simple setup?

I would recommend an AV receiver, some fairly good units in your budget. I have a HK3490 which has digital input for your mac and phono input for your turntable.   Look at Onkyo, Yamaha, Pioneer, Harman Kardon, Denon for good units.   Speakers wise you should probably go second hand. You...

Quote:   Wattage doesn't go as far as you may think. I seriously doubt anyone ever uses more than 1 watt on speakers that are more than 85 db efficient. 96 db is close to a constant jackhammer, 85 over a long period will give you permanent hearing damage.   Sometimes a good design can...

Quote:   I did say pro mechanics use petrol/diesel because it saves valuable time and all components are free of charge so they can go through as many as they like, eg before every grand tour the mechanics will put a new chain and cassette on every bike and these are quite expensive for...

    Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread

Quote:   Not sure if this is entirely correct. The wire seems to be around 28-30 ga on the outside but there's some plastic stuff inside so probably 32 effective.   It's definitely not as thick as the K701s stock cable which is probably 28.

    Sennheiser HDVD800 Headphone Amplifier

Quote:   The DAC portion of the Burson HA-160D measures extremely poorly and I wouldn't recommend it based on that alone. Measurements might not always tell the full story, but they are so poor that it shouldn't be recommended for serious listening, heck even inbuilt audio in computers...

Re-terminating the Sennheiser HD-800 cable to balanced.

Just in case anyone decides to do this, the channels may be switched around, so red = R+ and green = L+. I found this to be the case on my own set (18k serial).

    Headphones with the greatest detail?

From my limited experience so far with the HD800, the amount of detail is tremendous. In tracks where the detail is present, everything is laid bare.   I haven't spent a long time with STAX though so not sure how they stack up.

Could someone identify what kind of connections are on this DAC?

Quote:   MULINK seems to be a proprietary connector for current or future devices from the company, probably something like I2S or ACSS/CAST.
