    Try grounding the alps pot. Wire one of the metal screws at the back of the pot to ground on the one of the boards.

    Check for soldering bridges specially around the op-amp.It is a simple circuit, if you own a multimeter you should be able to do a continuity test in no time.

    All HD 25-1 parts are replaceable, Why not get the original one. those cardas and oyaide are expensive and imho you will not perceive better sq with them.

    2K is a lot of money for headphones and at this price range you are not only paying for sound quality, but also build quality. Those pics show a poor manufacturing quality control for a product that is suppose to be top notch and one the best in the world. No excuse.

    I've been using the x5 for a year or so and the sound quality is fantastic. it would be very interesting a x5 vs x5ii in terms of sound quality.
