Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Hello, just a quick question on the 660s: how is the bass compared to the HD-650, specifically the sub-bass? I did watch a few youtube reviews of the headphone, but I couldn't get a really concrete grasp on how the bass compare (some said it's stronger, some said it's weaker, others don't...

    Hifiman Ananda

Thanks everyone. Seems pretty much unanimous that they're great for electronic music. I'm not completely sure yet ($700 is a lot to spend on a headphone!), but I am definitely that much closer to picking the Ananda. Thanks again.

    Hifiman Ananda

Hi guys, I'm currently deciding between the Ananda and the Elex. I will be mostly listening to pop/EDM. I'm guessing most people's immediate suggestion would be Elex, for its bass slam, but I actually don't care for bass slam that much - as long as the sub-bass is there. I actually had the...

Listening to EDM on HD650's. Am I doing it wrong?

I think it's going to be very hard finding a headphone that does both really deep bass and those "blissfull and euphonic heavenly parts" very well, but then again I haven't tried all the headphones out there. But as I said before, I once had the TH-900 which is known for having amazing sub-bass...

Beats Solo 2 a little light on treble?

So, I picked up a pair of Beats Solo 2 on a whim, because I'm looking for a cheap, disposable $100-$150 headphone. I was expecting this headphone to be a typical V-shaped, "exciting" headphone, but I'm actually finding the treble to be a bit laidback. Am I crazy? Or is this how the Solo 2...

Listening to EDM on HD650's. Am I doing it wrong?

I might be wrong about this, but based on my observation, a lot of modern EDM these days are actually pretty balanced, probably because the producers know they are being played on insanely loud club systems. If the songs were V-shaped, it would rip everyone's ear-buds to shreds. It was actually...

I have a used pair of TH-900's I'm selling ($800 shipped). PM me if anyone is interested.

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Anyone interested in buying a used, nearly one-year-old TH-900 in excellent condition? The only thing is that the leather carrying pouch has a slit on it, as I used it to cover the headphones while on its stand, to let humidity and hot air escape. The headphone itself is in excellent condition...

I still get the recessed mids, but that, as you say, might have to do with the amp I'm using. But the Grace m9xx definitely tames the highs on the TH-900, while still keeping the details and instrument separation. No complaints at all with the highs coming from the Grace m9xx.    What...

That's how I feel about the bass on the TH-900, too. The bass alone is worth the price admission.    Funny enough for me, I didn't buy the TH-900 for the bass (I first heard it in a head-fi meet, in which I apparently couldn't hear too much of the bass at the time), so it was just icing on...

Fair enough. No one can stop you from doing what you want to do!

I don't know... IMO, if you like the LCD-3F, why sell it? Selling something you like, and buying an entirely new headphone just to fulfill your amp's usage seems unnecessary to me. Because aren't headphones considered the most important part/the top of the audio chain? So I would put priority on...

I definitely agree the mids are recessed, but I don't think it has to do with the bass smearing into the mids. I find the bass to be pretty clean, TBH, with very little "stuffiness" that you get with that mid-bass hump (like I did with the old Grado RS-1, IIRC).

Interrestingly enough, when I first auditioned the TH-900, I couldn't really tell there was a ton of bass. What drew me to it, at the time, was its "cohesive" sound. While Sennheisers tend to have "neatly organized", so to speak, treble, mids, and bass, and the AKG 702 has sound that is kind of...
