Why are USB S/PDIF interfaces so expensive?
Quote: He is saying dont go USB-> SPDIF -> DAC just go with a USB DAC, like the ODAC (it use I2S internally instead of SPDIF, which is a simpler and more elegant solution.)- extide

If all you need is analog out from the DAC, check out the ODAC. I am thoroughly enjoying mine. It's a very simple and small device, about 1/2" x 2" x 3", with only USB in and 1/8th stereo jack out. Uses UAC1 built in drivers/supports 24/96.- extide

Quote: Sounds like you didnt let the device finish indexing your media before you tried to mess with it. You may need to clear the app data for the music processes/services and then reboot it to have it re-index, and then just let it sit for like 10-15mins. I have found that once you do...- extide

Looking for an upgrade - all suggestions welcome - to current computer audio set-up
I have this headphone amp/dac and it has line-out's as well which I use with a stereo receiver and a set of speakers. http://www.firestoneaudioproducts.com/cute-series/fubar-3-mk2/ The Fubar III MK II, can't remember exactly how much it cost but it wasn't very expensive.- extide

Directsound VS Bit-Perfect
Quote: Im not sure on EXACTLY how it works, but I do know that it can support sample rates other than 48Khz, and that it uses far better algorithms and whatnot than XP/earlier. In my experience, I can't tell a difference using WASAPI vs DirectSound (in windows vista/7+). That's across a few...- extide

Well, a thousand dollars is pretty good amount of money, so you will have quite a few options. I would say go with the Objective2 DAC instead over the ASUS one. Then you can go with an integrated pre/power amp or you can look into getting a separate preamp and a power amp. In that...- extide

I installed an app called Advanced Task Killer, I have used it on phones before. You can have it add a widget to desktop that kills all apps, and it has an exclude list so you can let it keep the essentials running. This seems to help my player in a number of ways, responsiveness, it doesn't...- extide

Looking for a device which I'm not sure exists
The DX100 may be able to run an external HD with a USB OTG cable. It's not exactly cheap though... but hey, you wouldn't really need your external DAC/AMP either ;)- extide
