Glad someone finally started this tread.I absolutely love mine. They sound fantastic and have all day long comfort. They would be completely perfect if it weren't for the cable has a tendency to tangle(non-removable). I also have the x1 and owned the 650, I prefer these to all of them.

I've been watching the x1's as well and just as I was going to buy a pair they went up to 260+. Waited a week and they were back down to 232 on Monday(when I bought mine). Now up to 290. If you were waiting for a pair I would wait a week as 235ish seems to be the more regular price on amazon.  ...

I was thinking of a similar setup, but I already have a 13', so hopefully it will work.   Another thing I was considering is trying it on a window rt tablet or a surface pro. Not sure how the power thing will work out, but I know that my dad's RT has a full sized usb port, so it may work.

I was in the same predicament last year and I ended up getting a used pair of audioengine a2 off ebay. Could not be happier. If you want new, I would go with the Klipsh, they were my second choice.

Being an Apple shareholder, I honestly don't like the deal for the assets, but I do like it for the talent.   I would bet that Iovine has a pretty significant non-compete clause in this deal. It also may be a case where he is promised a spot in the succession plan or perhaps running a spun off...
