I don´t think Torpedo III will substitute Torpedo I as they will have different sound signatures. Many people will probably want to keep both.- diego

Mainly for better thermal efficiency. Shunt regulators waste a lot of current particularly in the case of the WaveIO. This card uses a lot less current when playing 44.1 khz material than it uses when playing 384khz but if you want it to be able to do 384khz you have to set the current for it...- diego

Thank you guys. For the power supply I used AMB Sigma 22 and Sigma 11 power supplies. The first has a +15 and -15 output and feeds the IVYIII amplification stage and the second has a +5 volt output and feeds the DAC and WaveIO USB converter. Additionally, both the DAC and WaveIO have their...- diego

They are basically the same. The only differences I have seen over the years are the quality of the output cap and that very old ones had a resistor at the output that significantly increased the output impedance. Diego- diego

Maple tree audio HD2 Tube rolling question
You can not use a 6n6p because it needs 6.3 volts on the heaters and the HD2 works with 12.3v . In the case of the 12bh7, you can plug it in and nothing bad will happen but the ecc99 works better in that amplifier. Regards, Diego- diego

The tubes might not have enough life left. In any case, it's a good idea to have an extra set of tubes, it helps you troubleshoot and sooner or later you will need them anyway. Diego- diego

6as7 tube amp schematic
This is my highly modified SP Extreme clone. With regulated B+ I used one of Pete Millett's regulated heater supplies for the 6sn7 with it's own independent transformer and elevated ac for the 6as7 heaters. Originally I used the same pot the Extreme had but now I want...- diego

Crack;Bottlehead OTL
It's not for the energy stored. The cap forms a filter with the headphones and cuts off the bass. For instance, if you are using 300 ohm headphones, you will have no bass below 5.83 hz with a 91uf cap but you'll have no bass below 12.94 hz with a 41uf cap. As a reference, I have an...- diego

Technical help with SinglePower PPX3-6SN7 amp/tubes
That amplifier uses 6sn7s in all positions. The first socket is for the input tube and the other two are for the output tubes so it is better to use identical tubes on those sockets.- diego
