The Dekoni pads are not dry, it looks like that because the layer with the glue has peeled off the earpad. Looks exactly the same when i had to pull off my old Dekoni pads to replace them. Instead of the glue layer coming off, the pad itself gave way. :( I doubt you'll be able to glue them back...

For me the Maxwell is surprisingly comfortable despite the weight and (slightly) smallish earpads. I have the top strap at the max setting so i don't think i'm getting much of the suspension effect though. Clamp force is abit on the heavy side but i think it helps to distribute the weight quite...

I got my bluemini replaced at the local dealer yesterday. New one is perfect and doesn't have the same weird noise/static coming from the left earcup. The staff thinks it might be some sort of grounding issue on my original bluemini, but anyway they will send it back to Hifiman to check.

I've changed mine before (with another pair of stock pads) and it was quite a struggle for me, especially trying to get the replacement pads to click back in. Like you, was pretty worried about pressing too firmly, but more of ruining the new pads. My original ones barely lasted a year before...

Yeah, it kinda sounds like that to me as well. I've also noticed that the static volume stays constant, even if you lower the source volume down, so it really becomes super obvious. Will probably show this behavior to my dealer to demonstrate the issue.
