Looking for ~$500 USD headphones with good bass response

They'll need to be on US Amazon but able to ship to Canada, since I'll be getting a $500 Amazon gift card for the American site. I'm not really looking for basshead-type headphones, but I have found that I prefer headphones with a somewhat exaggerated low end—so long as it doesn't overpower the...

How to tell if S/PDIF port is optical or coaxial

My guess is that it is optical and would be activated if I plugged an adapter into it. I'll probably just see if I can find an inexoensive mini-toslink adapter to plug in.

How to tell if S/PDIF port is optical or coaxial

It's right next to the headphone jack, so it's more of a case of accidentally plugging the headphones in. There's no response from the computer or the headphones when I do it though, which suggests to me that it is in fact optical.   I believe I've also tried it with a 3.5mm to RCA coaxial...

How to tell if S/PDIF port is optical or coaxial

I have a Lenovo Y50, and I'd like to be able to use its S/PDIF port. I have no idea if it's optical or coaxial though, and I'm having trouble finding any way to determine which it is. It's a regular 3.5mm jack, but the laptop doesn't recognize anything that I have that's plugged in to it (read...

    2015 vsonic iem lineup VSD2, VSD7, VSD9

That would probably convince me not to buy from either LMYE or VSONIC again, honestly.

    2015 vsonic iem lineup VSD2, VSD7, VSD9

Well, preordered one of each as soon as they went on sale. I've been wanting some new IEMs, and getting 4 pairs of VSONIC IEMs for $95 CAD is a pretty good deal to me. We'll see how they are (maybe I'll review them).

Several questions about custom ear molds for in-ear monitors

To the best of my knowledge, Ety does their custom sleeves like this:   1. You purchase the IEMs themselves through an authorized retailer. 2. You register on the custom sleeve website and reference where you purchased your IEMs. 3. You pay for the custom sleeves. 3. You visit one of...

Looking for an affordable solution to "dirty" ground

I have a laptop that I want to use to listen to music with my Little Dot I+, however the laptop completely ruins ground and causes a ground loop when plugged in. This creates horrible noise through the amp. Using a Grub DAC sort of helps, but only in that it makes most things louder than the...

VSonic GR07 Bass Edition on Clearance at LendMeUrEars

I was looking for some new IEMs to replace my DBA-02s that went through the washer (whoops... they still work but the male end plug is dicey now), looking through Joker's thread, and decided on these. Went to LendMeUrEars and they're on clearance for $130 USD (163 SGD). That's not a bad deal, so...

    A DAC for my laptop

I bought a Little Dot I+ headphone amp off another Head-Fi user recently, and when I hooked it up to my laptop I discovered something awful! First of all, there's some sort of ground loop issue or other power related issue that generates huge amounts of noise when the laptop is connected to the...

Reply to review by 'demize' on item 'Shure SRH 440 Professional Studio Headphones'

Well, two things here. 1) I'm looking at the scale as out of 5 rather than 10, and 2) I phrased that wrong, they're quite uncomfortable after a while. They can start to hurt your ears and the top of your head after probably an hour or so (maybe more, I'm not sure) of use. They're very...

Review by 'demize' on item 'Shure SRH 440 Professional Studio Headphones'

These were the first high quality headphones I ever bought. I love their sound, although it could certainly be better when it comes to the treble in some songs. The only issue I have with them, really, is that they're a bit uncomfortable for extended use -- they're like a vise on your head.

    Can't PM

I have the same problem. My guess is it's linked to our post count (i.e we're too new to be allowed to PM), but it should say that instead of that we've sent our allotted 2.

Looking for a cheap headphone amp

I bought a pair of SRH440s, then I read a review on here that said they need an EQ or a headphone amp to sound good (ie not like cheap earbuds). Now, I have my laptop hooked up to a Philips MC235B, but that's not exactly a headphone amp (although it does sort of function as one, I'll admit). I'm...
