HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
Just received the HE-500, an addition to my humble collection (Mad Dogs with Alpha Pads, Audio Technica M50 and Koss Portapros). The HE-500 sounds incredibly good, and I can say that it's magnitudes better than the Mad Dogs although some people say they are very comparable. The HE-500 trumps the...- darrenscerri

Schiit Magni Headphone Amplifier
I am using the Magni to power both my M50 and Mad Dogs and am very happy with the sound quality. On the other hand, I am a bit concerned that my Magni is not outputting enough power. For some quietly mastered music, I can easily run the Magni at maximum volume using my Mad Dogs without the...- darrenscerri

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review
Quote: Everything is at 100% on my computer: only controlling volume using the Magni. Using the M50's, the Magni @ at 11 o'clock is comparable to the FiiO E17 close to max volume. I found out that 11 o'clock on the Magni outputs about the same volume as my iPhone 5 at max...- darrenscerri

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review
It's not hearing damage for sure. As I said, the M50s are extremely loud @ about 12-1 (depending on the music). Anybody has any experience with the Magni and Mad Dogs?- darrenscerri

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review
My current setup is: Foobar (WASAPI) -> Modi -> Magni -> Mad Dogs I only have low volume problems on relatively quiet music (the version of Adele - Skyfall which I have is one example - maxing the Magni, the volume is still ridiculously low). For other music, I have to increase volume to 3-4...- darrenscerri

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review
I am using the Magni to power my Mad Dogs. Overall am very happy with what I'm listening. One thing I noticed is that the Mad Dogs require tons of power, especially when compared to my M50s (volume knob @ 12 is loud on the M50s). Sometimes (depends on the song) I can easily max out my...- darrenscerri

What should be my next Schiit?
I agree with you, but: The Mad Dogs with Alpha pads are a great pair of headphones and would love to exercise their full potential with high quality audio gear than buying for example the HE-500 (which are practically the same price as the Schiit Bifrost + Lyr). If I buy the HE-500, I...- darrenscerri

What should be my next Schiit?
I'm looking to upgrade my setup: Currently I have a pair of Mad Dogs with Alpha pads, and a pair of Audio Technica M50. I have a FiiO E17 for portable use and am waiting for the Schiit Magni/Modi to get delivered (should arrive on Monday). I want to go a step higher and upgrade to...- darrenscerri
