What I did with my CPU headsink when I wanted the best contect was to dry sand it at first, then I wet sanded it with regular wet/dry sandpaper. I just got increasingly finer sandpaper. The coarse sandpaper I dry sanded it, and then I wet sanded it. It worked for me...it doesn't give a mirror...

My guess would be some kind of Sony V series becuase the left earphone seems to have a swivel cup design...but im not sure if any of the v series cords look like that (with the "anti-kink" thing where the cord meets the cups) but I could be wrong.

I dunno if we can really help you unless you show us a picture, and even then it will probably be risky. As far as I can help I'm pretty sure that the mechanism to grab/release the disk from the "loading dock" is broken. Just take a few minutes and look for any springs that are unconnected/out...
