    Replacing one driver?

Hi,   I noticed distortion in one side of an old pair of XB500s I have, so i opened them up and found one of the diaphragms was perforated. I've bought a pair of used drivers as spares, both in working order. Is there any reason why I should replace both instead of just the broken side? I...

Software for ripping CDs to lossless

I'll mostly be listening to lossless files at home, so I can use any media player, but itunes is my go to. In terms of portable I'm confined to my iphone at the moment, but i'm looking at picking up a used x1 or something of that ilk sometime soon. Any other suggestions for lossless playback...

Software for ripping CDs to lossless

Hi all,   I've decided to start a lossless audio library; I'm going to go with ALAC for convenience. Is there any reason why iTunes is less than ideal for ripping CDs to lossless? If it's not considered the best, why, and is there a relatively accepted 'best programme' for doing this? It's...

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

expedite electronics. I've heard they have truly horrible customer service if you have problems down the line, but there are enough positive reviews and protections from paypal to instil me with confidence. You pays your money...

The AKG K550 Impressions and Discussion Thread!

I spent the last couple of days agonising over whether to buy these or the UE 6000. Fortunately one of my friends has the 550s, so I spent a couple of hours yesterday putting them through their paces with a variety of genres, and I was really impressed. The bass certainly is less pronounced than...

    Headphone amp or old receiver?

Quote:   Yeah no doubt about the XB500s. I'm buying the Alessandro MS1is as stay at home phones though. I doubt I'd use the sonys with the vinyl often if at all. The MS1is are 32 ohm which should be a bit better i presume. And if i decide to stick with vinyl then i can buy more...

    Headphone amp or old receiver?

Quote: That's interesting. Suppose it's just a bit hit and miss buying an old receiver and seeing if you like the sound! out of interest, would a more modern receiver (say 90s) have a lower impedance from the headphone jack?

    Headphone amp or old receiver?

Yeah having spent the afternoon educating myself, I think I'll need to go turntable>preamp>amp>headphones. this is fine though because there are some really wallet friendly pre-amps around.

    Headphone amp or old receiver?

I've not really looked at amps before, but the O2 seems expensive to the UK and not readily available. just doing a quick google search for amps suited to low ohm headphones, would something like the FiiO E10 do the same job? Appropriate inputs for a turntable etc? cheers

    Headphone amp or old receiver?

Quote:   I was planning on using Alessandro MS1i which I'm within a couple of days of ordering. I also have XB500s and Fanny wang on ears (for bass head mood and portability respectively). I'm pretty open to how i set it up I just don't want to spend loads of money until I know I'm...

    Headphone amp or old receiver?

Hi, this should just be a quick question. I'm looking at getting into vinyl and for cheaply at first untill i know its going to stick...I've found cheap turntables in abundance and from reviews have a good idea about what to go for. My question is, should i go for an old receiver and plug...

You know you're an audiophile when...

When you get depressed by the realisation that by the time you're old enough to afford a top of the line rig, you'll no longer have the hearing capacity to appreciate it. And hating the irony of living as a young student with a brilliant hearing range, but not having the funds to feed it.
