Smyth Research Realiser A16
One positive of doing a machine learning method is that the measurements are probably done at more points around the listener than would be practical in a realiser studio room recording. That along with the added benefit of measuring anechoicly which gives the flexibility of measuring speakers...- cachi

I agree, but at that point why even get the realiser, just get the THX solution- cachi

Definitely not, unless Smyth has a huge database of ear morphologies and measured HRTFs to train with machine learning. This is what THX has ( a database) and it will only get better as people submit their ear morphologies and match to a good HRTF. Machine learning is only as good as the database- cachi

It might be possible that Smyth has partnered with private investors and therefore cannot divulge so much detail as it would be strictly forbidden under most capital investor agreements. I don't think the kickstarter contract requires any exclusivity with its backers- cachi

Not sure what you mean by that, legally they don't even have to deliver anything. They can just simply keep the money due to spending it all on R&D and kickstarter wont do anything.- cachi

This is great news for you guys, the product will actually be made and delivered eventually. Take this from a guy that got scammed by kickstarter for $500 and the product NEVER got delivered. There has been people who tried to create a law suit but to no avail. Kickstarter does NOT guarantee a...- cachi

Why don't you just get an external bluray player for your computer, then you can use all the computer solutions (OOYH, sennheiser GX1000 etc)- cachi

Actually, you know what. The realiser might be a good tool to develop this idea if it would let me extract the measured HRTF from it. Since I could then measure different basic shapes to try and come up with a basis set. Once I have that then I could use my own ears to try to recreate my HRTF...- cachi

Well, i'm not sure if your familiar with the concept of a basis set (like in linear algebra) but basically it would entail deconstructing ear shapes into a good basis set. Say maybe like a flat plane, a curved surface (3d sin wave perhaps), and other basic surface shapes. Then measure the HRTF...- cachi

I think the future of personalized audio will entail a much better solution than the 'smyth' solution (albeit its a very good solution currently). I bet that it's possible to create a one-to-one map between ear photo/scan and HRTF. I have a good idea about how to do it but don't have the time or...- cachi

I agree with the listening level of movies, but I also would want to listen to alot of music with the realiser. Since I can easily spend hours listening to music, I would want to adjust volume to a level that my ears would not get fatigued and still allow good detail to come through. Hence, my...- cachi

How well does the realiser emulate speakers at lower volumes? does it still sound like speakers playing but at low volumes? or Do you need to crank it up to the level that the sweeps recorded at to make it sound real? Wouldnt recording sweeps at high volume have the inherent room acoustics at...- cachi
