How are you liking the r-1 sound compared to your previous dacs so far? Is it really all that?

Will there be a point in switching from a topping d90 to an audio GD r1? I'm trying to find the closest thing to a balanced chord mojo or qutest without a battery. I was pointed towards this brand. I know that Hugo TT would be the obvious choice but it's almost 7K and I'm trying to keep it...

I'm also interested in the r-1. I currently have a topping d90 which sounds perfectly clear and clean as advertised but I had a chord mojo for a little while which I really liked the sound signature of and audio-gd was recommended to me as something that may have that chord sound signature...

Hopefully not too dumb of a question but would it be possible to use a chord qutest with an rca to xlr adapter to my switch which then goes xlr>xlr to my preamp and headphone amp? Just curious if anything is lost along the way. The qutest would be the easy answer if it was balanced out but...

I remember liking the sound of the mojo in 3v mode going into a THX AAA 789 amp. Was thinking about trying something similar with my topping D90D to see how it sounds but I got tired of that buzzing sound the mojo makes when it's plugged in charge mode and also tired of running out of batteries...

He1000v2

I agree about the he1000 V2 having slam. It's not over done but it's definitely there when it's called for like in daft punk or aphex twin they sound incredible without being boomy at all. To me it seems just right. It may have something to do with the a90d having 9.8 watts of output.

If you don't want to have to worry about the source I would think maybe the focal bathys but I'm not sure how pounding the bass is. As for the ah-d7000 I found that they really got better when I upgraded to the a90 d90 stack and installed the elite hybrid pads from dekoni. I actually forgot how...

These things really are amazing. I love my ah-d7000 but the he1000v2 definitely wins in the detail and separation department. Loving the extra sharpness with electric guitars as well as pretty much everything else. They sit on the edge of giving maximum fidelity without causing pain. Well...

Turns out the a90/d90 combo is very adequate. The phones are better sounding than I could have imagined and I have no regrets. Time to buy a decent balanced cable and I think I'm good to go!

The He1000 v2 came in today and I just slapped them on. Only been listening for about 45 minutes but initial impression is that they're absolutely bananas. The may not slam super hard compared to th-900 if you listen back to back but I honestly don't feel like I'm missing out on anything...

Just ordered a set of he1000 v2 on sale. Going to use them with a d90/a90 stack. I have a 15 foot occ cable from mimic cables that I'll use with the balanced adapter included with the phones. Will this be adequate to let the phones give their best?
