Pittsburgh HeadPhile Meet!
I won't be able to make it tomorrow but I would be interested in a meet in January. Unfortunately I don't have any interesting gear to contribute.- BoogieOogie

Pittsburgh HeadPhile Meet!
I know I'm late to the party here, but I'll try to make it out tomorrow (I'd be a few hours late though), or failing that, on Saturday. I unfortunately don't have much to bring along except my first-gen Fiio X3, and my knowledge is fairly limited compared to you all, but I'd love to meet some...- BoogieOogie

TURNTABLE SETUP Questions thread - don't start a new thread, ASK YOUR QUESTION HERE!
Hi guys, I posted here a while back about a Technics SL-Q-200 turntable that I found in the basement a while back. It had some wiring and cueing issues, which I have gotten fixed (It's working great now), but I didn't get them fixed myself- I opened the TT up and quickly determined that the...- BoogieOogie

Simple Reciever Repair- Quick Question
Thanks for the advice. I'll do that and see what happens! I've already determined that jacking up the volume and balancing all of the sound into the afflicted channel can provide a temporary fix, which was making me thing there was a faulty connection on the PCB somewhere but it could just as...- BoogieOogie

Simple Reciever Repair- Quick Question
Thanks for your quick reply. I do not believe any caps are leaking, which is a relief. The top of the board looks to be in very good (but dusty) shape. I'll do as you suggest and attempt to find the faulty contact visually. If that doesn't work I'll try anhydrous alcohol on the...- BoogieOogie

Simple Reciever Repair- Quick Question
I recently found an old Pioneer VSX-3300 receiver in my basement. It's got some issues with the left and right channels cutting in and out, but otherwise it's fine. I opened it up and took a look, and found these greenish-yellow splotches on the underside of the PCB: I've done some...- BoogieOogie

In moon orbit, I have to pay an arm and a leg and my firstborn son to get anything. Shipping's a drag out here. I'm reasonably confident in my soldering skills, so when I procure some suitable cabling I will DIY it. Thanks for the tips!- BoogieOogie

TURNTABLE SETUP Questions thread - don't start a new thread, ASK YOUR QUESTION HERE!
Just to clarify (sorry, I'm a flaming newbie), I take it by phono wiring you are referring to the external (unpluggable) ones from TT to preamp, not anything internal? Also, do you have any advice on the busted cueing toggle? Is there any way that I can open the TT up and repair it easily (as...- BoogieOogie

I actually have a pre-setup question! I just located an old TT languishing in a box in my basement, a Technics SL-Q200. It's direct drive and is equipped with a (presumably very old) Ortofon cartridge. After a little research, I've determined that it's about 30 years old and sold for about...- BoogieOogie

An audiophile and petrolhead's journal: Buckle up!
Oh Pontiac, maker of such fine sports cars as the Sunfire. It had a spoiler, so it must be fast. And built by Aston Martin.- BoogieOogie

An audiophile and petrolhead's journal: Buckle up!
If we're on the topic of pretty cars, I would like to submit the Iso Grifo. This is my dream car right here, from a company that used to make fridges. They're extremely rare, unfortunately.- BoogieOogie

Budget headphones choices
I would consider adding a Grado to your list, maybe the SR-80i. I love mine and they are similar in cost to the Audio-Technicas.- BoogieOogie

Thanks from a lurker, but in need of a new portable media player
I'd suggest a Fiio X3, which hits all of your criteria (except the equalizer- I don't believe it has one currently) and can be had with about 40GB of storage for $200 or so if you play your cards right, or over 70GB for $220. I just purchased one myself (upgrading from my own Walkman, which like...- BoogieOogie

WORST headphone you ever heard?
I dunno, unicycles can be pretty fun! But I don't think the Apple buds are the worst out there, by any means. You buy really cheap earbuds, they are going to sound bad- way worse than the iBuds.- BoogieOogie
