I fall asleep with my 4S pair in my ears all the time...never had a problem with their durability although they do stay in my bedroom all the time so I don't tote them around a lot. They're actually reasonably comfortable to fall asleep in once you get a pair of silicone tips really well...

Hm...it's a gorgeous car but hard to put in the same class as a Viper since it'll cost ~$40,000 more than a Viper. Should be similar performance though and a lot prettier.

I'd recommend a pair of Sony V6 or 7506 phones with the Beyerdynamic DT250 replacement pads. You can get a used pair with new pads for under $100 and they should be great for all of your requirements.

If you're inserting them correctly then yes, the pain will go away. It is entirely possible (at least with the ER-4x) to put them in too far, though, and then it will hurt no matter what and won't add anything to the sound. I'm sure you'll figure it out though.

Sounds like typical Magnolia hi-fi prices. On the other hand, their bellevue store does have an orpheus on display, so maybe they're not all bad. When I went to best buy in Federal Way they were out and had no place on the shelf for the player at all, so this might be something to pick up...
