I can recommend these speakers, especially if you live in Australia or New Zealand. They seem to be the best speakers available for under $200 NZD. I prefer these over Audioengine A2, although the size and weight of these things are pretty huge. Another con would be that it doesn't have any...

They should have stated that the cable was actually separate lengths of cable soldered together.

As the others have suggested, ditch the amp. I would suggest earphones with removeable cables - yes they're generally more expensive, but the tradeoff is much more worth it as many people experience cable issues.
