Maybe try out a pair of Sony MDR 1-AM2 ? Or maybe even a pair of Grado's? (I consider them "fun" and bright..)

I'm rocking the stock pads. I tried the bowl pads and hated them, they seem to improved some soundstage but reduced the bass as well. I think im in a bit of an audio crisis... contemplating now whether the rs1i's are for me. (Been eyeing rs2's for some time now) ... not to mention some sony's...

I have the 600 Ohm version of the DT 990's and have paired it with a "Matrix M - Stage" amplifier and use a Dragonfly USB DAC. Maybe look into the Matrix M Stage amps? They've upgraded their equipment substantially from the original version when I bought it back in the day.
