New Sony portable headphone - the MDR-ZX750!

Since I never actually listened to these with the stock pads, I decided to put the stock pads back on. There are pros and cons however.   First off, the ANC is much much much better with the stock pads, much more noise is cancelled either due to the dimensions of the stock pads or how the ear...

New Sony portable headphone - the MDR-ZX750!

The first thing I did when I took them out of the box was to switch to high quality mode as indicated here: http://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/zx750bn/v1/en/contents/04/01/06/06.html   With that being said, aptX is not supported by iPhones anyway so I would not benefit much from that, aside from...

New Sony portable headphone - the MDR-ZX750!

Picked a pair of these up refurbished for quite an insanely good deal, $60 and I also picked up Aureo's extra deep MDR-7506/V6 earpads to make these cans over-ear now instead of on-ear, better sound isolation and much more comfortable.    I would like to beg to differ with the majority of all...

    The JVC HA-S500 thread.

Anyone else notice the WS55 pads really "clarifies" the sound?   I just went back to the original pads after lots of use with WS55 pads to see if there would be any difference, and man the stock pads make everything sound so muddy and the bass super boomy, and they're really quite...

    The JVC HA-S500 thread.

Alright, I've got about 20 hours of burn-in with WS55 pads on. The bass does sound slightly tighter than I recall, and the mids seem to have opened up a bit, as well as the highs.    Honestly not sure how I feel about the WS55 pads, as I didn't have much to complain about as far as the...

Those who think the S500s are basshead cans obviously have never heard what a real basshead can sounds like...

    The JVC HA-S500 thread.

Quote: Actually, it's not bright per se, but with certain sources it sounds quite bright. I guess they're just very sensitive to the source, as well as EQing. Though, of course I listen to all my music with flat EQ. I know it sounds bright with my iPhone 4S, and most other mobile devices...

    The JVC HA-S500 thread.

I finally get to have a taste of the hype! A friend of mine just came back from Japan and brought me a pair of S500s, only $35 when converted from yen!   First impressions: superb build quality, couldn't be better for something in this price range. Is better than many cans a couple times its...

    Sound card and USB Dac

    That should be fine.

    Sound card and USB Dac

In most cases higher quality source components, for example an external USB DAC, can make lower-quality recording sound absolutely terrible, worse than they do from onboard audio as their role is to playback the original untampered-with sound it's being fed.

The foobar2000 help thread. Got problems or questions? Ask here!

I think I may have been misunderstood. What I meant was, since my DAC does not have volume control built in, is it better to lower volume with the Windows volume in the lower right corner of the screen in the taskbar, or lower the volume through my audio player volume slider in foobar to...

Ah, I see then. I'm just wondering if lowering Windows volume or lowering foobar volume instead, one or the other would allow for a lower noise floor.

    Audinst-HUD-MX2 DAC/Amp

Awesome, thanks for the info. Now I will just have to convince myself that the $100 premium on the MX2 is actually worth it over an ODAC, which may better suit my needs as the headphone amp portion of the Audinst is a complete waste for me as I don't use very high impedance cans, and I won't for...

The foobar2000 help thread. Got problems or questions? Ask here!

Digital volume control:  Due to my studio monitors having the volume knobs on the rear of each unit, I must use digital volume attenuation as adjusting my monitor volume would be extremely inconvenient requiring me to rotate each speaker around to adjust the volume. Is it best to keep...

    Audinst-HUD-MX2 DAC/Amp

I would like my DAC to have volume attenuation built-in, but sometimes I wonder if it's best just to skip all that stuff to avoid possible sources of distortion/another thing breaking down and go with something barebones like a Modi or an ODAC. I need an Audinst owner to confirm 100% than the...
