There is no longer a waiting period.

Is the line on your frequency graph red or blue, and which of the two posted does it match?
It may be that the colour of the line is related to the driver revision (red 2.0, blue 2.1).

They look very similar indeed. As with yourself, I have no idea what I'm looking at, just posted it for those who do. Of course I can see differences, and would assume the right hand side is higher frequencies/treble, but how the odd dips translate into sound qualities is something I cannot comment on :¬)
The differences between the red and blue graphs are far more obvious to look at.

Being hand-made, I'd assume each part of the production process is complete in batches, the next graph date could be a week or so later, depending on production speed etc. Just a thought.
I bought mine at 13th May.
So I guess only the cans after June are "brighter" ones.

Yoga, here is my second pair to compare to yours. My graph was dated 5/15/2011
To my old eyes they are all but identical. With my previous pair the line at the far right end where the 6.00 is cut off but at the cut off the line is going up rather than with the second pari going down. also where the line goes down from 1k to around 4k what part of the sound is that referring to. Sorry for my ignorance but I used to dream of watches in science class instead of paying attention to graphs and such!

I don't understand some of the whining here. if one likes the older version, what right does he have to tell the company to not make any changes or improvements. Some of the comments made here sounds like when people buy a product from a company, they ipso facto become the owner of the company. That's not how things work. What Audeze did was a smart marketing move as well. If you followed both this and HE-500 threads, you could see that why some people who do not like darker phones would gravitate towards HE-6/HE-500. Personally I absolutely do not want a headphone like HD650, and I decided to sell my LCD-2 and keep the HE-5. I was considering buying a pair of HE-6 or HE-500 because of what I mentioned above. But with this move, Audeze totally got me. By making this tweak in the drivers, they are actually making lots of Hifiman fans consider their product as well.

One of the concerns here is that among the top tier cans there will no longer be a "dark" alternative. As far as I understand the HE models, T1 and HD800 are quite bright. Those wishing for something darker might be out of luck. You could even say that part of Audeze's success was the fact that the LCD-2 is dark, it was certainly an important factor in my decision to buy it. It would seem rather odd to change that now.

One would think that Audeze would know when they first started testing the new drivers, the time and date of the test are printed on the top right above the graph for each pair of HPs, it should then be easy enough to say "After a certain time and date you will have the new drivers" This could then be put on their home page and cut out time answering each e mail question. I might be over thinking it though.
in my opinion the lcd-2 is not a dark headphone and the comparison with the hd-650 does not make sense.
otherwise the he-6 is too bright to my ears.
of course, these considerations are limited in my audio system

Here's a frequency response comparison of the two sets of LCD-2s I've owned. The March 2011 set was returned due to a failed driver. The July 2011 version is the replacement pair. I just picked the data points off the graphs supplied by Audeze and plotted them in Excel.
The earlier version has ~2 dB hump from 60 - 1,300 Hz, which should be clearly audible in a direct comparison to the newer version, as would the ~2-3 dB at hump at 1000 Hz and the ~4.5 dB hump at 10,000 Hz.

It would be really interesting if you could do this with the Rev2 LCD-2s and HE-500s.

Really well said. Exactly my point. LCD 2 wins it for me jst because of that super warm sound.

Looks like ur failed drivers just been replaced with another pair of functioning old drivers. Cuz neither of ur graph has that boost ~4-5 kHz (as shown in other new drivers' graphs)
