**Read note on condition below**
SMSL VMV A1 "a cheap audiophile's PassLabs" has the classic Class A sound - lively and crisp. While only about 10w.p.c. it is actually plenty enough to drive most speakers at moderate listening volumes. I used it with my fairly hard to drive CSS 1TDX and my ex-Sound Artist LS3/5A and it was able to drive them plenty loud very well. Much better than cheap tube amplifiers like the A10, A12, etc. which tend to distort pretty badly at max power. Not so with the A1. For best performance, it is recommended to use this as a power amp by setting the volume to 67 or 68 (out of 70) and use the source/preamp to control volume.
This unit has a slightly wobbly/loose-feeling volume control knob but the volume switch itself is very smooth and works fine. So I have conservatively graded this unit as a 6 - Fair. Otherwise, the unit functions very well and does not have much signs of use because I used this primarily as a power amp with volume set to a fixed 68. See pictures for to get a good idea of the condition - WYSIWYG.
Free shipping to Continental US (lower 48 states) only. For other locations, buyer emails Fedex/UPS/USPS shipping label with Insurance.I can offer a $20 discount if you provide me with a prepaid shipping label (UPS/Fedex/USPS only) WITH full insurance. I will not be responsible for shipping or related damages if you provide me the label. I can provide the same discount for local pickup in Issaquah, WA.
Prefer Paypal F&F or Venmo non-commercial payment methods.
PS:
(1) I have another unit for sale without the wobbly knob for $460. If you like to buy both (recommended for better dynamics to give each channel its full 10 wpc without stressing the power supply), I can sell both together for $840 (a $500 savings over current retail price for 2 units).
(2) I am relatively new to head-fi, but I have a considerable feedback score on eBay, OfferUp, and some on USAudioMart that I am happy to share so that you can buy with confidence.
