Up for sale is a pair of balanced (with original cable) Sony MDR-R10 headphones in good condition.

Details: These headphones are Serial# 0983 with a mfg. date of 1998 and are the Bass Heavy version. This R10 was professionally recabled by A Pure Sound with a balanced 4-pin XLR connection while retaining the original cable for single-ended output.

The MDR-R10 comes with its original plush carrying case and all accessories as shown.

Condition: There is a small amount of wear on the ear cups and the paint on the Mg hangers has minor scuffs in areas.
No flaws at all sonically - drivers, pads, and foam are in good shape.

Shipping and Fees: CONUS shipping and PayPal fees included in price. International shipping would have to be coordinated with buyer.

Sales History: I have sold on Head-Fi before (Sony Z1R, TA-ZH1ES) and have been registered for a good while as well. I have feedback on eBay and reddit that I can share if there is any doubt to legitimacy/trustworthiness here.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

I'm sure people view this listing and then just click off the page. I'm curious. Are there any issues here? I'm always willing to consider an IC for a reasonable price range.

I don't think there's any issue with the listing per se, but headphones technology have advanced a lot in the past few years compare to back then, and there are several super flagships available now that are much more technically capable than the R10 at 1/2 the asking price. Even though this does interest me, it’s just not feasible to spend near this amount (just IMHO)

Thanks, that is actually something I've considered and makes sense. There are a lot of amazing options out there that can compare to the R10s, and so these headphones have fallen into more of a niche these days than ever before. I appreciate your thoughts on the listing, thanks!

Outstanding shape! Also came to view these beauties but I just can't afford the price tag. I think these def fall into a collector's "niche" category and I'm sure they sound superb for what they are. I do have a dream of hearing these one day because I've been intrigued about these for quite some time. GLWS OP.

This falls under collector's category. And at this price for any item, not only this, there is gg to be less demand. Myself for example dont play in this price range. Glws. Beautiful and legendary headphone.

You could have sold it at this price quiet easily aybe before 2010 because after that the headphones market just exploded worldwide improving really a lot in quality so now the R10 it's more about a collector item than for the quality itself which has been largely surpassed by many headphones. I'm saying this as a collector that loves Sony. I have the CD3000 and SA5000 and many others vintage Sony Headphones but that is the way it is now. Now a reasonable price to sell it for a good condition unit is maybe betwen 4.500/5.500 us$ and the buyer will be a collector anyway. In 2021 a R10 will be bought as a collection item as I said and not for its quality which is 2/3 step under all the other headphones in the same price range.
Before the R10 was the most best sounding and most and rare expensive headphones in the world next to few others. Now it's a rare collector headphones, not more than this. Maybe sad but it's where technological progress leads us.
Cheers

SMH, the R10 is still THE best headphone ever made. For acoustic/classical music the R10s are far better than any in production headphones, including the Sennheiser HE1.
