What are the Gear For Sale/Trade forums?

The Gear For Sale/Trade forums are where you can list and look for all kinds of Head-Fi related gear, such as headphones, amplifiers, DACs, cables, CD players, and anything else audio-related.

Are there any posting limits or restrictions for the For Sale/Trade forums?

Yes. Anyone wishing to post a thread in the For Sale/Trade forums must be a member of Head-Fi for over thirty (30) days, and have over fifteen (15) posts. If you have not met these requirements, you will not see the option to create a new classified.

Please note that after you've made your 15th post (if you already have been a member for 30 days), the system may take up to one hour to update before you will have access.

WARNING: Posting nonsense or useless posts to get to your 15 required posts is not allowed. If it is found that you reached the requirement by making such posts, your For Sale/Trade forum privileges may be revoked indefinitely, and you may be banned at least temporarily.

How do I list something For Sale/Trade?

First, enter the appropriate For Sale/Trade forum. You can find the list of FS/T forums here. Simply click on the forum where you would like to place your classified ad. Once in the appropriate forum, click the "Post New Thread" button, which looks like this:

The resulting page looks like this:

First, you'll want to choose a title for your classified. Here's a few examples: "FS: ATH-AD700's with Dual Entry Detachable Cables and Dark Blue Grill Color and 1/4" Plug", "Grado HF-1", "RSA Raptor w/ tubes". Enter the title for your classified into the "Thread Title..." field.

The next field you have to enter is the "Description" field. Be as verbose as you want to be, describing the item you wish to list. Describe the item as well as you can and list any details or accessories you are including with this item, be it adaptors, original packaging, or even aftermarket accessories, such as cables or cases.

You may want to include photos of the item as well, as photos can grab a buyer's attention and show the condition of the item. To add photos to the listing, click the "Upload a File" button and upload any photos you wish to include. Once uploaded, they will need to be added to the post using the "Thumbnail" or "Full Image" buttons in the attachment window.

Once you've created your description and added photos, you can select how/if you want to be notified when others comment on your classified.

Next, you have to decide which type of classified you want to create. Do you want to sell an item? Are you looking to trade for an item? Or maybe you want to just give something away? Choose the appropriate option from the "Type" dropdown menu.

Finally, you'll need to choose the currency (USD, GBP, Euro, etc.), set your asking price and indicate where you're willing to ship the item you're selling. If you're posting a "Wanted" ad, select the region where the seller will be shipping the item.

    Remaining Fields.png

Once these fields are filled in you can create your classified by clicking one of the "Create Thread" buttons on the page.

Congratulations! You've just created a classified ad.

I want to inquire about a classified item. How do I do that?

Click the envelope icon next to the seller's name and send them a message. The icon looks like this: Envelope.png

I posted my ad, but I need to make changes to it. How do I do that?

To edit the title or custom fields of your classified, click on the "Thread Tools" dropdown located in the upper right corner of the classified.

Here you can edit the thread's title:

    ...or the thread's custom fields:

To make any edits to the item's description or photos, click "Edit" in the bottom left of the post.

I posted my ad, and I made a sale/trade. How do I close it?

To close a classified, please use the "report" link at the bottom of the listing and let the moderation team know the item has been sold. Once notified, the moderators will close the listing.

How do I leave someone feedback?

To leave feedback, start by visiting the buyer or seller's profile. Below their avatar on the left hand side, click on "Trader History."

On the next page you'll be given the option to view their existing feedback or add new feedback. If you're leaving feedback for a seller, click "Submit Feedback" under "Selling History." If you're leaving feedback for a buyer, click "Submit Feedback" under "Buying History."

Once you've selected what type of feedback to leave, you'll be shown the following page:

Choose the rating you want to leave for the feedback and add a comment about the experience. To complete and submit the feedback, click "Submit."

Can I leave feedback for an old listing?

Absolutely. If you've participated in a purchase, sale or trade you can leave feedback any time afterwards. There is no deadline on when feedback must be submitted.

I made a mistake leaving feedback. How do I correct it?

Mistakes happen, so it's easy to edit feedback you've left for others. To edit feedback, locate the feedback on the other party's profile page. This is accessible by clicking "Trader Feedback" below the avatar in their profile (screenshot above). Once you're on the feedback page, you'll see the feedback you left. To edit this feedback, simply click "edit" on the right-hand side. There you will be able to change the rating and comments up to 24 hours after initially leaving the feedback.

My classified listing has been up for a while, and other posts are above mine. How to I get it to the top of the listings again?

You can bump your thread to the top of the listings by making a new comment on the classified. Simply saying "bump" will be enough. You are limited to bumping a classified once every three days.

I visited the list of For Sale/Trade forums, and I saw links to "Archive" forums. What are those?

These are legacy forums which are no longer in use. They have been kept around so that users can finish up transactions which were in progress when the new FS/T forums went live. They also contain the legacy feedback threads which many users have feedback in. Unfortunately, the feedback left in the old feedback threads could not be imported into the new feedback system.

If you want someone to see your legacy feedback thread, we recommend linking to the feedback thread in your classified, as well as your signature.

Will Head-Fi be charging to use the For Sale/Trade forums?

There are no plans to charge for the use of the Gear FS/T system.
