Helps my bass needs

Posted

Pros: Bass, build quality, cables, looks

Cons: Comfort, mids, highs, short straight cable

Sometimes I just need that bass, it's like an addiction but only comes every now and then. I brought these just for when I really need that bass but can't be annoying the living hell out of my neighbors with my speakers.    I brought these headphones with the impression of amazing, overpowering bass and well I was quite disappointed. The bass extends really deep and well with no distortion, somewhat boomy but not enough impact. I was expecting the type of bass I get from my speakers which is controlled and very powerful and vibrates up my legs, while I certainly don't want my headphones rumbling on my head, there just is not enough power behind the bass. As far as headphones...

Best PC sound I have ever heard

Posted

Pros: Very fun sounding, good for gaming, beautiful

Cons: Not neutral, ACM is junk, powered by PCIe

I built my first ever PC with this sound card, I had already brought a Asus board that has SupremeFX and well the ZxR dethroned the Asus immediately. I have not heard any of the Asus Xonar PCIe cards but anything is better than integrated onboard sound.    The sound cards look beautiful to me except for the cable that connects the main card to the daughter board, they could have made the cable not have to do a 180 degree bend to connect to each other which would look nicer.    Sound quality is amazing, it has a lot of onboard features which I didn't use because it made the bass sound like it was all over the place and made the highs unnecessarily powerful. It's...

I brought it for its looks

Posted

Pros: Just about nothing besides the looks

Cons: Fatiguing, cables, sound in general, horrible placement of buttons

I brought these on sale at Best Buy for $44, the price they are at right now are a absolute rip off. ($110) Logitech have discontinued these, I will take a guess in my review why that happened.   Okay on to the actual review.   Hooked up to Creative ZxR.   Brought these purely based on looks and because it's Logitech, I like their products! The black and red matched my new PC theme. The little excuse called the subwoofer also was nice and small and doesn't take up my foot real estate, it's quite priceless for me. That's it for the good.   The BAD:   Fatiguing! Listening to music with these for 15mins + leads to my ears being extremely angry, it just...

My first Grado!

Posted

Pros: Drums sound amazing

Cons: Shrill highs, picky

These are my first ever Grado's and I LOVE them, too bad I have to send them out to the next guy.    I was always fascinated by Grado's ever since I saw Auggie's RS2's on Covert Affairs. I just knew I had to try them at one point and along came this awesome opportunity to loan them. I decided to try their cheapest ones because I just wanted to get an idea of their unique sound.    Packaging Best headphone packaging I have come across, though I've only had the pleasure to open two others. Great packaging. Lots of lovely information to read in the box.   Build quality Despite being all plastic it's very high quality. Doesn't have that cheap plastic feel to...

Best IEM's I've ever owned

Posted

Pros: Bass, mids, highs(sort of), comfortable! Sexy

Cons: PITA to put into ears, stock tips

For reference the only other pair of IEM's worth noting are Kilpsch S4' with triple flange tips.   These normally go for around $200 brand new, I got mine like new, for $115! I was originally going to buy Yamaha EPH100's but it was a fight between the Brits and the Japanese, Brits won, I was thinking about Top Gear... Having previously only listened to one pair of KEF speakers at my local Fry's I thought they were going to sound like absolute soul-less junk. (They we're the cheapest KEF's speakers possible)  Well, they didn't...at all.   I am writing this review in BASS mode, so I am using bass boost to maximize the bass.   Bass is really deep and great...

Amazing sound quality

Posted

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing

I'll keep it simple.   Makes my stereo sound 100x better than it ever did.   Super high quality, looks fantastic.    I have it hooked up to my receiver which along with the speakers have been booming strong for the past 25 years, hope it can live as long as them.    Before I hooked this up, bass was uncontrolled and boomy but with the Modi, it's much more accurate. Highs are little better but still not much good, mids are better but like the highs, didn't change a whole lot.    Setup:   Receiver: Pioneer VSX-9700s (25 yrs old) Speakers: Bose 10.2's (25 yrs old) DAC: Schiit Modi!!! (4 months old)

Pretty good

Posted

Pros: Bass, high quality, carry case, (comfort, isolation)

Cons: Mids, highs, comfort, isolation

Brought these way back in 2011 for what seems like a total rip off today of $80 or so.    Good: Bass, I think the bass is too dominant with these, it makes the mids sound bad and the highs are just absolute crap. Build quality is good, my right one's cable was not very securely attached to the stress relief but still held up no problem over the years. Stock tips didn't work the best for me, my ears and IEM's hate each other. I brought triple flange tips and the isolation is improved, as well as comfort and no changes to sound quality.    Bad: Stock tips not for me. Mids sometimes taken hostage by the bass. Highs were shot long before, they didn't stand a chance!
