The Cyberdrive Seiun Player JR2 is DAP and a DAC/amp

Posted

Pros: Dap and DAC/Amp in one. Clear, detailed, easy IU, light, sturdily built

Cons: Lacks dynamics, can comes across as flat (not in a neutral way), simple UI may not be for some

Cyberdrive Seiun Player JR-2 DAP Review And Impressions - Expatinjapan  Head Pie   Cyberdrive Seiun Player JR2 review -expatinjapan   http://cyberdrive.audio/products/seiun-jr2-384k-32bit-music-player-metallic-finished   CURRENT STATUS: Pre-order. (unreleased at this stage, or in production)     The story As I live in Japan I am well placed to attend some of the many headphone shows here  by Fujiya Avic and e-earphone which means I can try gear and meet people and companies. One company of course is Cyberdrive, who I have met on several occasions now which mean I could get an early edition of their Seiun player-JR2 when I attended a...

Mini-M8 is a dac/amp that is best suited to use with IEMs

Posted

Pros: Four inputs: Coax/optical and PC USB/iOS/Android, smooth, enough power to please, good detail and sound stage

Cons: size compared to their newer DACportable.

Centrance Mini-M8, My Mini Review And General Impressions.  Head Pie   NOTE: I wrote this review several years back and my views have changed more towards the positive. Mini-M8 works best with mid to totl IEMs and sounds fantastic with minimal or no hiss with ipod touch 6G as source. Centrance - Mini-M8           Initial out of the box impressions.   Mini-M8 – ipod touch 5G – Flacplayer app – Venturecraft  7N lightning cable – Dita The Truth IEMs and ATH-ESW11.   Nice packaging, a step up from the early Hifi-M8 packaging (I don't know how the current packaging is). Inside is the standard set of the unit (Mini-M8),...

DITA The Truth a TOTL single driver IEM

Posted

Pros: Neutral, detailed, non fatiguing, smooth

Cons: Cable is prone to coiling

DITA-The Truth, Review Expatinjapan  Head Pie   NOTE: I wrote this review several years and it needs an updated version for sure as my ears and sources have improved. This article I first published on the Head-fi forums. I have since upgraded from their earlier design in 2013 to their smaller, and imho better sounding present rendition of the DITA-Truth. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------   I received a set of DITA - The Answer (Truth Edition) from the designers in late October, 2013.   My first impressions were very positive but I wanted to give them a bit time to `loosen up`.   There are two choices...

COZOY Aegis is a great size with super sound

Posted

Pros: Non fatiguing, clear, uncolored

Cons: Volume control has a few jumps (This can be solved with the Relisten or kaisertone apps)

Cozoy Aegis Review - Expatinjapan.  Head Pie  11:14 AM  3 Comments Cozoy Aegis. The Cozoy Aegis is one of the many recent releases by Cozoy in the last few years. They seem to be making their way nicely in the audio world as a new company, releasing several products that have been greeted favorably by users on various forums.     Lets get the basics out of the way before we move onto the part you are actually going to read properly - the sound. Packaging. There are many unboxing videos on youtube and whilst Head pie hasn`t joined their ranks...yet, it is one of the attractive parts of purchasing a new product and the Cozoy aegis doesn`t...

The FiiO M3 is a great choice for the budget conscious or sporty types

Posted

Pros: Its not a TOTL player but it does perform very well, smooth, warm, pleasurable.

Cons: it has limitations but those are natural in the price point.

FiiO M3 Portable Music Player Review - Expatinjapan  Head Pie    FiiO M3 -A simple review for a simple player by expatinjapan.   I was chatting with the people from FiiO as I was republishing their article on the history of FiiO http://headpie.blogspot.jp/2016/01/fiios-foundations-brief-history-of-fiio.html (FiiO is currently finishing writing the article covering the period 2011-2016). My greedy self was murmuring in my brain `request a FiiO X7 for review! Do it` - but my heart told me to request the FiiO M3 and EX1 earphones.   FiiO EX1 earphones. Why? Well I thought of people looking for an entry level and affordable set up, or something they...

Chord & Major Rock and Ballad reviewed here

Posted

Pros: Great build, clear, clear and each a bit colored (see below).

Cons: Fit can be a bit hard, with some rubbing due to the edge by the tip

Chord & Major Review - (Rock) Major 8`13 And (Ballad) Major 6`13.  Head Pie     Chord & Major review (Rock) major 8`13 and (Ballad) Major 6`13. http://en.chord-m.com/     I first encountered Chord & Major at the e-earphone show in late 2015 in Tokyo, Japan.    They invited me to their table to try out their earphones and I had a quick listen, I suspect they were fresh out of the box which isn`t wise for a show - I could be wrong. But I see it happening at many of the Japan shows, staff congratulating me for being the first to try out a product, sometimes even wrapping off the plastic or protective slip of the screen...

Fiio EX1 is a nice airy earphone best suited for the outside

Posted

Pros: Well built, decent price, sound great and good fit.

Cons: The vents mean sound leaks, so not ideal for a train or bus commute

Fiio EX1 Earphones Review - Expatinjapan  Head Pie   FiiO EX1 review - expatinjapan.     Build The Fiio EX1 is sturdy, solid titanium. Mine are in black and I was sure they were plastic until I tapped my teeth with them. These IEMs aren`t going to get damaged anytime soon. The plug is L shaped which will appeal to many users. The housing is small enough to sit comfortable within ones ear, the nozzle is on an angle and fits nicely into the ear canal. The cable casing is clear and gives it that custom cable look. There are some slight micro phonics as they are designed to be worn hanging down. The IEMs have eleven vent holes on the inside shell, and one...

Ubsound The Fighter

Posted

Pros: Affordable, fit, entry level, good vocals and details

Cons: Needed burn in, V signature-good for some,

Ubsound The Fighter Earphones Review - Expatinjapan  Head Pie  ubsound `The Fighter` review. A pleasant surprise at a bargain price.    http://www.ubsound.com/       Build The aluminum build of ubsound The Fighter seems well constructed and durable.  The Fighter is designed to fit a stylish form of mind.  Where the cable runs into the IEMs looks to be sturdy but I wonder whether more stress support could be added there. The housings could be smaller, and the nozzles longer, plus the housing closest to the earhole could be rounded off more. The cable itself is of the flat variety and seems to avoid tangle issues because of it.  The...
