an incredible dac for the price

Posted

Pros: Sabre detail without the harshness, full customizable to suit your individual system

Cons: original $750 version no longer made, new version better but a bit more expensive

There's really no point in me writing a review, as I concur with the more professional reviews written below. A huge range of people have spent hundreds of hours combined with this dac, and found it to best significantly more expensive items like the Anedio and Metric Halo.  Obviously, your mileage may vary, but the knockdown giant-killer feature of this dac is, for me, the customizablity that no other top-level dac offers.  For those who say that tubes are simply not as good as solid state or discrete, let me simply remind readers that the Level 4 Lampizator and the Killer Dac, both $4000+ dacs widely regarded as the absolute best, money no object dacs, both use tubes. ...

Fantastic small desktop DAC/AMP combo

Posted

Pros: solid rich bess, smooth but detailed treble, great musical sound

Cons: none I can hear, but I haven't tried more expensive home amps

Fantastic little desktop DAC/AMP.   I'm using JH-13 Pro IEMs exclusively.     I started with an ibasso T3, which was nice.  Upgraded to a RSA Shadow, since I have IEMS.  Decided that since much of my listening is done at my desktop, the Shadow's price would be better spent on a DAC/Amp combo.  Since I didn't want to lose the portability, and use them for IEMs, I got the iBasso D4.     If you look up that DAC/amp, it's got an incredibly solid reputation on its own.  I loved it.  Then I got the hiflight topkit, and switched out the op-amp to class A and left the stock buffers.  This made is sound absolutely incredible.  Then I purchased the special high-power 9.6v...

completely satisfied

Pros: Unbelievable overall sound quality, great fit

Cons: expensive

Just a short review - all the praise lavished on these in the JH13 forum (a million posts long) is deserved - I upgraded from the Ety-6i to the Q-Jays to the UE-Triple Fi's to these.  I can't comment on value, since I got these used at half off, so they were an incredible deal.  But they're just amazing across the board- I never knew that bass response could be this full and rich and accurate.  The sound is improved with a good DAC and (low gain) amplifier, but sounds incredible right out of any decent portable source.  I take them everywhere with me and listen to them constantly.
