Opened case of iPod Video Gen 5.5, the stock HDD removed/replaced by a Tarkan ZIF->CF adapter board, and CF->SD memory card adapter fitted with 128GB SDXC card. Ease in opening the case vs. huge pain in the ass iPod Classic makes the Gen 5.5 Video a good candidate for Flash storage upgrade, as does the stock Wolfson DAC. Don't seek out or use cheap parts, it won't even work.

The now very quaint iPod mini, so 2004... unless you replace the HDD with a (Class 10) 128GB SDXC card. How 'ya like me now? Small form factor and Wolfson DAC make this model a great candidate for rescue from the scrap heap, for instance as an iPod to use while exercising where excessive bouncing, vibration/shock, and even a little sweat won't hurt it too bad. Short battery life means no marathon workouts.

Mini-DIN to RCA cable. Used as an adapter / cable to plug a DAC with SPDIF trough the S-video mini-DIN on Dell laptops.

AC side of the power supply is wired. This build doesn't use all the transformer's tabs, but I still kept them just in case I want to re-use this transformer in another project. The blue wires are a 6v secondary, isolated from the main secondary, that I will probably use to power LEDs in the tube sockets.

Final modification applied to the headband of my SRH440. I trimmed the pleather from the stock abomination they called a headband, and stitched it to the ledges of the HD650 headband cushion. The earpads are SRH940's pads.

Kimber GQ-mini Cu, DIY modified with a G&H Show Saver 1/4" Copper Tip stereo plug, replacing the original Switchcraft 3.5mm plug. For use in connecting the Resonessence Labs Herus to a home stereo preamp. Think I'll also swap out the stock Kimber Ultraplate RCAs for Eichmann Copper Bullet plugs.

Latest modification to my set. See the 3 holes inside the white donut? Stock there's a single one. I added 2 more. This extended the low end response. There's now more deep bass, but it didn't raise the overall bass volume. The balance is just right. It also widened and deepened the soundstage - somehow. They sound more like speakers now, which is to say they are less fatiguing.

DIY 3.5mm -> RCA cable... Apple-esque design inspiration. HGA IC-4.24H silver/copper braid terminated with Eichmann Bullet Plug RCAs and Oyaide right angle 3.5mm plug. My go-to cable for use with the HRT iStreamer.

Ever come up just one foot short? I have, so I made this extender from a piece of HGA IC-4.26S silver braid, ViaBlue T6s (small) 3.5mm plug, and Neutrik NYS240BG 3.5mm jack.

My freshly finished SSMH on it's first test drive. The pot, knob and output jack were salvaged from a vintage stereo. There's bad scratching sound from the pot, I'll have to find a better one.

Linear regulated power supply for my MSSH. Revision 0.2.

First series of tweaks to my MSSH.

Connected the 0V rail to earth with a 100Ω resistor. This eliminated the noise picked from the floating inputs.

Doubled the value of R13 hoping to lower the back ground noise, it didn't change anything.

Added an identical resistor in parallel with the one in the CRC filter, because the original 7Ω dropped too many volts and overheated. I thought it would make the noise louder, but it didn't.

Connected the volume pot's metal casing to ground. This eliminated the static noise when touching the pot.

Finished assembling the power supply in the new enclosure. Since the case is shorter than the clear plastic one I had, the original layout did not fit. I rebuilt the power supply from the ground up. I placed the capacitors so they shield AC from the rest of the circuit.
