connecting speakers in series

I have an old sony stereo amplifier I use to drive two 10 inch subwoofers in my room. One of the channels just crapped out on me, I've opened up the amp and checked the connections but it's beyond my ability to repair.

I'm thinking of trying to connect the speakers in series on the remaining channel. I'm not 100% sure but I think the speakers are 4ohms each, and the amp is only rated down to 4 ohms.
IIRC I can't connect the speakers in parallel or the resistance will only be 2 ohms? If they are in series they will be 8ohms correct? Can I do this without damaging the amplifier?

you can safely connect the speakers in series but be aware you will not have stereo and unless you flip the receiver mode to mono will lose half the music

Series connection=ADD the individual speaker ohmages

Parallel connection=DIVIDE X number of and impedance of speakers
