DISASTER!!! TSA took my amps!!!

SOB!!!

TSA confiscated my brand new Porta Corda MK-II which I JUST received from the group buy!!! They also confiscated my self made MINT in an altoids tin !!!

CRIES!!!


This is the WORST day of my life...I stood around until my gate nearly closed and asked them to give it back to me...basically did everything short of forcing them to open fire

They made me fill out a form with my address, social, took a copy of my driving license and put everything in a white box along with the amps...Will I see these amps again?? I dont even know what number to call...

Airport - BUFFALO NY

I dont have the names of the TSA staff involved but he was a mean pig.

THANK GOODNESS Ray Samuel's own personal SR-71 was stuffed away in my checked bag because I only had one good 9V battery If I had lost the SR-71 I wouldnt have been in a position to compensate Ray

As it stands - this is too risky and I will not carry these amps on board...or attempt to...they belong in checked baggage

I offered to place a call to Jan Meier for them to ask about the PCMKII but they basically walled in on me and told me to bugger off..




I am devastated...didnt even have the chance to listen to the PCMKII under class-A operation before this crap happened...arent there any rules by which they confiscate stuff? I noticed another man having to wait because they removed a nail-cutter from his bag...

The problem is - my Mint was a mess to look at (first self built amp) and after seeing that - they probably didnt even want to open the PCMKII. You should have seen the way they handled the box after everything was inside - put it away in some sort of special cupboard...

Probably for the BOMB experts


I am waiting for a call accusing me of being Abu Ali Bengaba and a wanted terrorist...

Man, that sucks. I could understand some concern about a homemade looking MINT amp but the Corda is a commercial product!

I was planning on carrying my Airhead with me on the plane this weekend -- at least that amp has a symbol with a headphone on it.

I hope you get your amps back.

You have to understand, that if someone wants to make a bomb, and then disguise it as something, an amp can look very good. The last time I travelled, they were inspecting ipods very carefully! And, I had to take off my shoes and got body searched as well, and I don't fit any profile for a terrorist. My husband, on the other hand, walked right through! Maybe they already knew he was a card carrying republican! I'm sure you will get your amps back. Now if the skycaps had taken them, I would worry. When my mother-in-law changed planes in Miami, the sky cap took her bags to put them on her connecting flight (she had just made customs in Miami, so the bags were not routed through directly), and she never saw them again! Even though it was a domestic flight, the airline (American) only awarded her the international compensation ($1000 less) because her original point of departure was outside the country. That was some very twisted logic, but even with a lawyer, we never got anything in a addition to the $500 per bag. It really was a crime.

I can totally relate! Let's all raise a cap and a resistor to amps confiscated by the fine fellows at Airport Security...

MisterX's Curious George Low-Z Cmoy Amp is somewhere with your Cmoy, PCII, and the Ark of the Covenant as we speak.

You lost an amp to the TSA too? Did you fill out a form? Any idea what to do next? Will they call you? Man I am sooooo upset now...$200.00 in amps down the drain!!!

When my friend gave me the SR71 as a best man gift, I gave him my old cmoy to listen to on his honeymoon. He got stopped at JFK and they totally shook him down. That amp is gone man - he didn't even bother arguing or filling out a form, since his new bride was shooting daggers and wanted to just get on the damn plane. i caught hell for giving him something that looked like a terrorist device later.

One can only hope! But it didn't make much difference anyway, as the body search was conducted by a woman. Men don't bodysearch the ladies anymore, nd I don't know if they ever did. I am a lot slimmer than my husband, but middle age has taken my youthful waistline (and also pregnancies -- but that is a different "rant").

There has got to be a way to travel with the amps, maybe they have a way to have them examined and looked at? Also, if you can pack them for shipping, why not fedex ground ship them ahead of you? My husband always ships his golf clubs ahead of him when we travel, and I am so grateful that he does! Do you know what it is like going through the airport with a heavy golfbag?

I dont know...they didnt give me a receipt, phone number...nothing

It doesnt look too good...I will be back in BUF airport mid Jan and I will ask again - unless they call me before that or send the amps via mail. I dont see this happening though...

Honestly, it's best to try and shake it off and move on - my friend didn't even get a courtesy call about the cmoy, they probably destroyed it in a bomb vat then sifted through the pieces.
