Is the $149 ear candy the best? or worth it considering that the iPod will be the only source?
I can't discern any difference between the earcandy and a "quality cable" I got from Magnolia hi fi for $30. JMT or another vendor here can easily make you a quality cable in a custom lenght. Chumley, and another head-fier, disagreed with me and feels that the Earcandy makes a difference. Again, I am just a newbie, so I advise you PM chumley.

Mine fit perfectly the first time. Tight seal, balanced volume, and great sound the first time. But then again, I am easy to please!

When I ordered mine, I was a little worried because it seems that there are more sensa people getting bad fit compared to Ultimate Ears. But of course, I trusted lindrone on this issue! I will say that the 2X-s is the best audio purchase I made this year. It is worth its weight in gold when I am in some hotel outside the US by myself and being awake in the middle of the night because of jet lag and time zone difference. Not to mention it makes long plane trips much more bearable.

Thanks so much fo the information. It is truly wonderful to speak directly with people who own and use this product and not have to depend totally on discussions with the manufacturer.
I use the $149 ear candy (panorama) cable and love it. To me, it is worth it. But at this level, I figure why not go all the way?

Also, I am still working to get a good fit after several attempts and quite a bit of time. I am not looking for perfection, just looking for a good fit. Getting good molds is essential. I went to the audiologist recommended by Sensa and am still in the situation I am in. Buying these is a committment. There is no return policy, only the ability to continue to work to get a good fit. This has been a difficult thing, almost like a relationship with a significant other that you wish you could just end, but it doesn't work out that way....

The other difficulty is that the different fits I have had all resulted in different sounding headphones. The ones I have now sound no where near as good as my Senn 600 with stock cable. As always, hopefully YMMV.

I also have a custom made cable from Norm at Headsave. When I a/b tested again the Plastics One a while ago using my etys and a previous amp, the Headsave cable gave little deeper bass but less highs. I had another cable as well (can't remember the name) that also had slightly different sound quality. The problem with all these other cables is that are just too big and inflexible and make it a really pain to just throw in your bag. Not worth the hassle to me.

Plus if the cable is deemed good enough for the headphones, why not the interconnect?

Just a tiny bit of detail that needs clarification. Plastic One does not make the entire Sensa cable, only the part from the Y-joint to the plug

All this talk REALLY makes me want to embark on the journey that'll culminate with some custom Sensa molds for my Ety's but the whole having to ship things across continents puts me off a little

If this conversation is really tempting you into getting some sort of custom mold, I think you should just save that money towards investing into a real custom IEM instead of a custom mold attachment for the Ety's anyway. The sound improvement between Ety and Sensas is definitely not just a case of custom mold working magic. You end up spending $150 on minor improvements, if any, in terms of sound; although the improvement in wearing comfort will be noticeable.

Yeah, I tried the universal sensaphonics model that looked like a bloated pairs of etys with the tri-flanged tips and they were almost as good as the custom molded sensas. I think custom molds has mostly to do with comfort and less to do with the sound quality except for the final few percent. Slapping custom molds on the etys will not magically improve the sound.

The other advantage of the sensa custom molds is you can lay on your side with them but with the etys and custom molds, they'd still stick out way too far.

Sensa quoted me $100 for the molds, and the extra comfort is a big factor in my wanting them.I haven't long had the Ety's (a while before crimbo) and i daren't spend any major ammount more on 'phones at the moment or my significant other will have my balls for bookends If the sound improves a bit that'd be a bonus too
