MD33 vs. EX71

I'm sure this question has been asked before, so please direct me to the appropriate thread if it has.

But in any case, my EX71s broke on me yesterday (left bud wtopped working). I need something new, and quick. Should I get another pair of EX71s or should I go for the MD33s (which I've never experienced before)?

I really, really don't want to upgrade right now because I'm totally flat broke, so if I could stick to one of these two, which would it be? Thanks.

MD33.

If you dont need isolation, might want to consider KSC75. Its considerably cheaper (you did mention being flat broke) than either and IMHO more comfortable.... but it an ear clip style.

No, isolation is a serious concern of mine.

Also, do these two phones compare comfort-wise?

Yes, they are both very comfortable.
On long journeys on accasions I listened to them up to 14 hours a day, without itching.
The Sharps are IMO slightly more prone to microphonics, (the Sony's seem to have a softer wire) but the Sharps sound better, bass is more integrated and the midhighs are too sharp for my taste on the Sonys, better on the Sharps (still too metallic, so I modded them).

If you've already tried EX71s get MD33s - I would. If you really want to go cheap, get EX51s, same sound as 71s but cheaper, and no annoying extension cord. Both offer very little isolation, for that get Ety 6i's ($110 or so) or if you must, Shure E2's - which I don't like myself because of rolled off highs.

If anyone who's tried EX71 and MD33s can throw reviews on my website (link below), i'd be most appreciative. This question comes up time and time again, i'd like to be able to help people decide with more information.

I'm going to submit a review for both EX51 and KSC75. But I have to wait a few more weeks. (honoring your 30 day limit).

Thnaks,

I've listened to both the 71's and 33's. I listened to another broker's 71's, then researched and bought 33's from Audiocubes.

Gotta say I'm happy with my purchase for use with my 4G Ipod and a new Porta Corda II (please hurry up Jude-Claus )

I was thinking about getting some MD33's, does anybody know how much isolation they have?

Im on the same boat as OP and im beginning to lean towards the sony's as I found them cheaper then the sharps and also dont really look forward to modding the end..

I've tried the mx550 but have yet to find a b&m store which carries the koss ksc75 or 35's but I think i'd prefer the canal phones compared to the clip ons.

The MD33 are meant to have about the same isolation as the EX71s, which is more than none, but less than a lot. If you need isolation neither are really suitable.
