HD600 - Wow!!!

I went in to town today, mainly to have a look in the sales, but also in the back of my mind was the thought of getting a turntable... I went in to one of the shops I had targeted, and noticed they had some Sennheiser headphones, so I had a listen... I started with the HD555, and they sounded quite good to me, but then I tried the HD600... Wow!!! To me, they sounded so much better than the HD555. So I bought a pair . I didn't even bother looking at the turntables.

I'm going to try them out of my reciever's headphone socket to see how they sound, but I suspect that I'll end up getting an amp for them too . Any suggestions?

Dave.

The Corda amp that fits your budget out of the following:

HA-1 MkII (485$), HA-2 (650$), PREHEAD (original version) (895$), prices from http://www.meier-audio.de. The Prehead doesn't sonically differ too much from the HA-2 I think, but has a more powerful output.

Why one of these? Jan Meier will donate a considerable sum to the tsunami victims if you buy any of the amps listed - http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=99435. Audio Valve RKV mk. II was also listed, but it's a tube amp priced at 1100$... not sure how it would pair with the Senns.

Oops!

Oops! I've just noticed a mistake in my original posting . The comparison was not HD600 vs. HD595, it was actually HD600 vs. HD555. I've edited my original post to reflect this.

Sorry for any confusion .

I feel so stupid .

Dave.

Probably a good idea to do some reading on amp reviews in the amp section. Most of the amps were reviewed with HD600. It really depends on:

1/ How much do you want to spend;
2/ What type of music do you listen to;
3/ What type of sound you are after;
4/ Your listening habit;
5/ Creating synergy with your other components.

My system has an LP-like qualities, 3-dimensional soundstage, warm midrange that I really enjoy. I listen primarily to Jazz, and this combo performs especially well with this type of music, especially female vocals.
