Focal Diva / Electra 927Be Speakers

Has anyone had the chance to listen to the new Focal speakers? I was over in Champaign yesterday at Glenn Poor Audio and listen to the Electra 927Be, the Diva and Alto Utopias. Of couse the Alto was great but it is just to large for my room. The Diva uses dual 8" side firing woofers instead of the convential woofer to maintain a slim profile. The Electra 927Be is a limited edition in the Electra line but uses the Beryllium tweeter.

I must say it was a great experience as the staff was very good to work with. I first had listened to the Electra and the Diva in more open settings but Geoff Poor insisted I listen to them in the dedicated room. Boy what a difference that made. I ended up really liking the Diva's but still am somewhat concerned by the side firing woofers and how they would react in a more closed in room.

Besides the Focal speakers, has anyone had any experience with side firing woofers in speakers? I have seen lately several manufacturers switching to the this setup to maintain the slimmer front profile.

Thanks of any thoughts on this.

Sidefiring woofers always only play the role of a subwoofer unless it's a very poor design, fyi. Unless it's a very good design, you may be better off with a regular subwoofer which would give you more placement options.

The tweeters are the greatest things about these new Focal-JM Lab speakers. They do get better as you move up, but they also get massively bigger.
