I have to admit that I don't find the merit to resample in FB, and after pretty extensive comparison I tend to switch to DirectSound 2.0, and leave the resampling to kMixer. I think I know what you mean by brittle highs, and it seems to me DS mode is better in this respect. However, I like the card very much.

Lol, to some, kmixer is the "source of all evils" :P I prefer using the asio4all plugin, though I can't resample while using it. To me, asio4all sounds a weee bit more detailed, in the sense that the detail kinda stands out. With ks, the subtler details feel like they're hiding in some dark corner, waiting for you to spot them. Might be placebo, though. They are supposed to be the same thing, aren't they? =P

Bonjonno: Kernal streaming should work just fine with the AV-710. You should consider returning the card.

Just wondering if they fixed the multi sound bug in newer driver versions....

if you don't know what im talking about, heres what i mean:
(hoping its been fixed)

when in hi-res mode and listening to music and another sound plays (say a windows beep or msn message alert) all music stops playing.

or better yet, a very annoying buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz that is fixed by turning the volume down (from the system-trayicon) & then back up

QUick question for anyone willing to answer. I noticed the prodigy bios flash trick and this would be perfect for me since I'm using only digital optical out with an external receiver. WHere can I find this bios and instructions on how to flash?

what are the benefits of doing this flash for the card if youre using a surround sound reciever? i am using a digital optical connection and for some reason it doesnt stay "open" all the time, like if i click on something and it makes a sound its almost like there is a delay in the card sending the sound and it gets cut short.. and any time there is no sound playing and then i play something it pops up on my reciever and says PCM 48KHZ, like its having to turn back on or something.... anyone else experience this?

System Stand-By issue

Hello,

Got the AV-710. Instaled it with no problem with V451c drivers, but I get no sound after wake up from stand-by-mode like Guust-Fi describes in the first post. Restarting Windows Audio in the Services menu does not work. Anyone have a fix beside disabling stand-by-mode?

Thank you for this guide. Read this along with Mr.Radar's, and finally got my lazy self to get kernel streaming working!

---

~14% cpu utilization by foobar
~33% for a second when I change songs

This is on a P4 2.4 (non Hyp-Thr). Hope these stats are about right.

It's your receiver - if no audio comes through for a while, it "forgets" what kind of audio it was receiving, then when something else comes through it has to try to figure out if it's PCM audio or something else like AC3 or DTS. The audio is muted while it's doing this (otherwise if it was AC3 or DTS, you'd get blasts of static when it tries to play that as PCM).

Some receivers have a "PCM Fix" mode or something similar that should prevent this. Of course you'll have to turn that off if you want to play AC3 (Dolby Digital) or DTS, otherwise you'll get only noise.
