96 KHz, you mean.. The Wolfson DAC can go higher than that but I'm pretty sure the Chaintech cards aren't capable of outputting those rates to the DAC. It depends on the clock crystal used on the card (you need a 49.152MHz clock for that, I think, and the Chaintech uses a 24.576MHz).

As an aside, the S/PDIF output from the card and the output to the Wolfson DAC are the same output from the Envy24HT chip. This is how you can use the Wolfson DAC when not in high-sample rate mode, just by switching on digital output - the Wolfson DAC gets the signal as well. This is also why digital output can't be turned on in 7.1 channel mode (the Wolfson DAC is used for the extra rear channels in this mode, and digital out would only give you those channels on the digital output).

Kernel Streaming problem is still there

Guys,

First, thanks for the great setup guide.

I've read thru the thread and seen the same problem mentioned here: "KS output error: error opening device" However, there's no good answer for it

Also asked here but no replies yet http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showp...95&postcount=6

i apologize in advance if this has been answered and this is most definitely a noob question, but i just installed my soundcard and followed the directions as the guide says. i've yet to receive my dac and optical cables so i haven't tested them yet, but my question is will i be able to hear sound out of my computer speakers with this setup? i can't hear anything while playing songs through foobar and itunes and i'd like to know if i'll be able to hear sound with this set up and if not, what i can do so i can. thanks in advance

okay... i'm completely confused. i installed 5.2 off the website and it shows in my add/remove programs window... but i still have the audio deck and i have no clue as to how to get rid of it... and how do i get the 5.2 to show?
