Newbie help with Foobar - DSPs and Presets

Usually, I use Winamp 5 w/ DFX. However, I connected an Indigo Echo DJ card to a JVC stereo w/ a biamp and I noticed the software was taking up too much processing power/memory. So I want to try out Foobar as I've heard it's lower on resources.

I just started using Foobar and was hoping for tips on setting it up, regarding DSPs and presets. I did download some presets from another post, but they really weren't to my liking.

I will be listening to:

Jimi Hendrix
Outkast,
Wu-Tang,
Dead Prez,
Radiohead,
Interpol
and maybe some reggae.

The one thing I managed to set up was the Foobar ASIO output plugin, which is working just fine.

* If you offer advice, please remember I am connected to a stereo. http://www.jvc.ca/en/consumer/produc...p?model=FS-J60

The only thing I have in my DSP stack is the volume control (which doesn't get used often). I kinda have this thing against software eqaulizers and resampling.

well, the thing is... the DFX 7 and Winamp 5 combo sound awesome... it just makes the sound "fuller" so to speak.

So without the preset, I find foobar sounds a little flat. I know part of the process is to establish your own setting, but I'm not good at that... yet. I'd rather just edit someone else's preset.

The people on this forum mostly have awesome sound equipment that really does sound best without any DSP plugins. The DFX and others were mainly designed to make cheap computer speakers sound like better ones. With expensive equipment, the processed sound after these DSPs sounds very distorted. You can either stick w/ winamp or get better equipment, I suppose. Either that or try listening w/o DSPs for a week to get readjusted to "normal" sound.

haha... it's funny you mentioned that, because I listened to Hendrix with just the stereo 'n foobar... and it sounded awesome.

Yeah, I guess I was just a little worried, because I've never used Foobar before. I thought I was missing out...

I'll play around with the EQ myself.

You can use DFX7 with Foobar if you want using the component at the top of this page that lets you use Winamp DSPs with Foobar.

FWIW sodaya, I use the Indigo out of my laptop w/Grado SR225 headphones and use no DSP. I've experimented with just about all of the standard components and cannot seriously reproduce any better sound so I don't use them.
