hrm... everyone around here seems to make lite of the Transit's KS ability, as if i shouldnt have even asked the question because it obviously is supported... I get mine on the 29th, so ill hook it up and give it a whirl, hopefully it works...

I believe ASIO will accomplish what Kernel Streaming does, and is an established standard, and the Transit sounds great.

I did not get Kernel Streaming to work with Foobar and Transit.
But ASIO worked and it seems to do the same thing.

I don't know about that. I posted because you stipulated KS was important to you. In my experience the Transit does not support KS, and I just wanted to alert you to that fact. I like the Transit, use it daily, and recommend it, but I was never able to get Kernel Streaming to work. As Scottder observes, it does support ASIO.

Let us know what you think of it.

For my config with the Audiophile, I'm using the PPHS Resampler (with Ultra mode checked), at 24-Bit Fixed Point Playback. After much experimentation, this is my preference...I encourage you to try all of the options & see which one sounds best to your ears. You will probably have to play around with it on the Transit...as I recall, yeah, you may need to go with "24 bit padded to 32" in order to get it to work. There are many Transit/Foobar/Kernel Streaming/ASIO threads on head-fi that you can search on. These topics have all been touched on in pretty good detail. You'll find your way, I'm sure .

I don't recall it having that feature. I'd have to say no.

Peace,

Graz

Transit vs. Audiophile USB? your comments? if they both sound the same then going transit would be a better value if the connections on the Audiophile weren't required.

Since you're using the Perreaux headphone amp, you might be interested in the new DAC they have coming out -- it's got a USB input. The new DAC will be available next month.

Check out the Perreaux website, although it seems to have been hacked and is unavailable at the moment.

I prefer the Audiophile over the Transit sonically. To my ears, the Transit sounds somewhat thin and compressed compared to the Audiophile. Additionally, IMO, instrument separation is markedly superior coming from the Audiophile. Please take into account though, that my sole use for either of these devices is to take a digital USB audio stream and turn it into S/PDIF for my DAC. I cannot comment much on any of the other features. I have never used either device directly to headphones. I did use the Audiophile's analog outs directly to my headamp for a brief period (with good success), but I never used this configuration with the Transit, so I can't compare.

I like that the Audiophile is externally powered (vs. the bus powered Transit). I also like that the Audiophile has an RCA S/PDIF output vs. the optical S/PDIF on the Transit...it's simply my preference. I must say though that the Transit paired with a high quality glass toslink cable works quite well in my experience.

From what I've read, the Audiophile has a higher quality USB receiver, and a higher-end codec/digital audio transceiver combo than what's in the Transit.

If you're interested...

Transit USB receiver: TI TAS1020A http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folder...t/tas1020.html
Transit Codec: AKM AK4584 http://www.asahi-kasei.co.jp/akm/en/...84/ak4584.html

Audiophile USB receiver: TI TUSB3200 http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folder.../tusb3200.html
Audiophile Codec: AKM AK4528 http://www.asahi-kasei.co.jp/akm/en/...28/ak4528.html
Audiophile Digital Audio transceiver: Cirrus CS8427 http://www.cirrus.com/en/products/pro/detail/P51.html

From what I've gathered in this thread:

http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=94520

...I believe the Waveterminal U24 shares a very similar architecture/topology to the Audiophile...plus it's smaller & doesn't have some of the "unnecessary" features that I personally have no need for (midi in/out for example).

Peace,

Graz
