Dynamic vs. Electrostatic - Page 2

HUH?

"For those people, dynamics are a Type B 'phone since it makes things sound better to them. Others want to hear the music without those colourations..."

So dynamics are a coloration?

Your comment of real life application of stax vs senn is interesting. In short, for many practical reason I find myself using senn on daily basis while the old fragile nova basic for that once in a while chocolate treat for the ears. If I were to choose only one pair of phones then 595 will definitely stay. Despite their glorious detail and extremely nice tonal balance, to me stax belongs to nice to have category while a good senn is a must have.

Slightly OT: imo comments saying that 650 are useless without zu are, well ... useless =) and whatever amp you have for your 545 will also put 650 into good use.

It also has the advantage of being able run off a conventional amplifier or receiver like a pair of speakers. All in all it is a freak of nature and a small miracle that an AKG team was given rein to build such a pair of headphones. They sell for around $750 these days from what I read. You do need an amp though, and be prepared for comments on your appearance.
i wish this would still be true..

That might have been the case when the post was added, in 2004. But the price have gone up since then. First of because they went out of production...

I got one for about that much a few weeks ago on That Auction Site, so it's not impossible, you just have to be vigilant.
