Cable for Gilmore Lite

I'm fixing up a rig with an iPod and a Gilmore Lite. I'll be using Grado 225s and am looking for a good mini-rca cable. I'm not sure if I should go copper or silver? Right angle or straight connector? Aftermarket, or DIY?

I'd appreciate any advice, including the names of any cable builders or vendors you've had good luck with.

I use a silver based IC with my Gilmore amp, it's very nice. I've found silver to be brighter and clearer than copper, but then again I wasn't using high end copper IC's before I started building my own w/ silver. Maybe a high end copper is just as good.

If you want to build your own it's not very difficult, you just have to gather all the parts from around the web. You'll definetely save money long term if you build multiple cables, but if you're just doing one then buying outright is easier cuz by the time you pay for all the parts & shipping you'll end up losing out.

Plugs are really a personal preference, i.e. right angle plugs, depending on how your PC is set up, can put less stress on the jack. Straight plugs are fine as long as there's no 'pull' on the cable that would cause the plug to move around inside the jack and bust it.

I would use copper with grado headphones. Silver will generally add too much sibilance to the sound.

Biggie.

Zu Pivot is a commonly recommended mini-RCA (www.zucable.com)

AudioQuest makes some nice 1/8" to RCA cables (straight mini connector) I've got their G-Snake 1m, and I've always had good success with the Straightwire cables from Headroom (right angle mini).

Are you going to be using the cable plugged into the top of the iPod or into a dock. I'd take a careful look at exactly how you'll be hooking up the iPod and where it will be sitting and how it will be handled. In some situations a right angle mini would be preferable (mainly if connected directly to the iPod), in others a straight cable would be preferred (possibly if hooked up to a dock line-out). Some connectors may not physically fit depending on the configuration you're using.

For Nomad JB3/Earmax Pro/RS-1, I use Homegrown Silver Lace and a Rat Shack RCA to 1/8" adapter. I've had better luck with the adapter than with native RCA to 1/8" cables I don't like as well. The Homegrown Silver Lace uses eight conductors a channel, and the idea of soldering 16 wires into a 1/8 inch connector to eliminate the adapter somehow doesn't appeal to me

Thanks for the thoughts. I put in a bid for a Zu Pivot on ebay and wound up getting it real cheap. I'll give it a shot for a while, but may look into getting a custom copper cable if it's too bright.
