Need help with Budget HT Setup - Page 2

The VTF-2 is much better at reproducing music than the stf-2. If you want something that does both music and HT the vtf-2 is what you want.

The hdmi input on the tv is used currently for the cable box. Btw, isn't it better to have the video signal directly from source to display? Rycet
Not necessarily. This is where the real test for av receiver comes in. Good AV processor/receiver should not deter or hinder any performance. It's really more of convenience of control.

Both the Titan and the Atom are in Paradigm's Performance series, so you should definitely get the center channel speaker that match that particular series of speakers.Soundboy
Totally agree with this. Save yourself time and money to match center speaker. Imo, the center channel is 2nd most important after frontal. Must get matching system. In case of sub, you don't really need it from the same company. I'm quite sure the head-fiers gave you good sub list, Hsu.

For cables, I'm going to get Acoustic Research pro II series, it has good quality IMO (correct me if I'm wrong) and it's not that expensive.Rycet
I'm using AR proII and Audioquest copperhead. Mine are from www.hififorless.com. It was a steal for what I paid on sale. Tributaries are pretty good for the money too.

If you don't have a big room for HT setup, you might want to consider dipole/bipole surround speakers. For example, your sitting position is extremely close to the rear speakers where sound dispersion is not there to travel in space. If you have a big room, I rather go for floorstanding speakers and worry about sub later. But this opinion really depends on your taste, time, budget and preference.

Thank's for the advice so far guys, I just got hsu sub STF-2 for $365.00 (include shipping) from ebay.

BigD, thank's for the link to hififorless.com but I bought mine from accessories4less.com

It's almost complete now, I'm just waiting for center speaker. The hifi store around my area currently does not have paradigm cc170 in stock. They might get it next week so in the mean time I also look for ebay and audiogon.

Btw guys, if I'm going to get a bipole/dipole speaker for surround, should I worry matching them with my front? What will be a good budget bipole/dipole speaker?

In theory the perfect HT would have all matching speakers, fronts same as sides and center. It is usually a good idea to get surrounds from the same company and lineup as the rest of your system.

That Panasonic receiver digitizes all analog inputs unless it has a HT pass thru or 5.1 in. If you use the Philips you would be wasting the SACD capabilities. I suggest a matching Panny DVDA player.
