Speaker cable gauge?

I have guillotine type clips and this won't really allow anything bigger than 16. My point is, am I missing something with 18??? I don't think that with 10 feet of cable, 16 would give me anything better. Would it?

Here is Roger Russell's Wire Table from his excellent writeup on speaker cables called Speaker Wire - a History. From that, 18 awg should be ok at 10 feet, as long as impedance doesn't dip below 4 ohms.

Roger is the retired Director of Acoustic Research at McIntosh Labs, where he designed and originated the McIntosh loudspeaker line. Other interesting stuff on his pages as well, including the ability to order reprints from his vast library of audio magazines.
