if you keep an eye on ebay you should be able to get a panasonic sa-xr25 for around 130. great reciever for the price.

Craigslist is also a good resource. You might be able to spot a decent deal on amplification and/or speakers.

Hey I see youre in NYC, I can help you spend your money. hehe. I would go with PSB and a Harmon Kardon integrated or receiver. Very sweet sound. Check JandR for the receiver and shop around for the speakers. If youre going used check audiogon. Go to stereophile.com and check the budget speaker reviews. There is an Infinity speaker for around $150 that supposedly rocks and should be readily available.
