Grado Speakers. Who knew.

Alot of folks have two wishes when it comes to Grado:

1) Closed Can Grados please.

2) Speakers with that Grado signature sound please.

Well who knew, eh? Joe made some speakers in the 60's.

obviously not my sale. just a curiosity item really - ancient speakers, i wonder how they still sound.

John grado also has produced speakers as was reported from a Grado meet a couple of years ago.
no comparison though.these puppies were multi-element line source speakers.check the "meetings" archives for Grado Speaker

They even have the red "Grado" lettering on metal tags like the HP-1000. Very cool. I bet they'll sell for a lot, though.

they look to be p.a. speakers like grocery stores use!

I would give $10 for them

"John Grado clean up needed in the cartridge section please"

Tough to tell, since there really isn't a set value for rare items like these, although vintage speakers generally sell low because of people weary of replacing hard-to-come-by drivers. I like the HP-1000 lettering too Are you gonna try and snag 'em Bln?

"Vintage speakers generally sell low"? I've seen many exceptions to that rule, which is why I'm pessimistic about the chances of these Grados falling within my budget. You'll notice the seller has already received several inquiries, though there's only one bid. If they were to finish around $100 I'd buy them maybe, but I doubt it'll happen. Thankfully I already have some vintage speakers I'm happy with.

I remeber reading on their website that before they became a phono cartridge-only company they had a full line of hi-fi (for its day) gear. They dropped all but the cartridge line because they weren't selling enough of the other stuff.

most don't realise that joe grado is the inventer of the moving coil cartridge but grado only offers moving magnet cartridges.i always found that kinda strange.

would like the inventer of the wheel always walking while others rode

I've been watching these since they started and one of the ones who asked about shipping. He also wasn't going to double box them but I believe that has been rectified. Still, the shipping is going to cost around $60 on top of the bid. Though I wish they had remained private, they are interesting for all to see. I don't really need speakers, but have this urge to take them apart. I find it interesting the 16 ohm is stamped over with 8 ohm, but don't know if that's good or bad in this case

the shipping seems to me to be kind of high.My klipsch speakers aree bigger and heavier but yet only cost $40 for the pair UPS and the boxes were HUGE.Plus the spekers have some heft to them.
i sometimes wonder if ebay sellers are not also turning a profit on the shipping

One of a kind, I believe:

Those are all RS-1 full-range drivers! They were being powered by a Melos amplifier (on the floor outside the picture frame), and they sounded sweet.

Alas, these are no longer on public display in the Grado Labs area. I think John moved them upstairs to his home after the first Grado meet where that pic was taken.

That is the funkiest set of speakers ever. I guess the guy who used his Grados for speakers all summer wasn't so crazy after all.

Wow those are sweet, how many drivers are in each one? Like 25?

Anyone want to guess the final price of the speakers? I'm thinking $170.
