electrostatic surfaces ?

Noticed in my older Stax phones that one panel beneath wire grille is smooth & other ear's has some "wrinkles."
Why does this happen, & what kind of acoustical effect, if any,
does it have?

When I was reading about magnepans I found out that sometimes the layers of mylar can begin to seperate. It is supposedly very easy for a qualified technician to fix with the proper adhesive. I would assume there would be a sonic effect of the wrinkles but probably a small one and mostly in the upper frequencies.
